Number of Australian coffee shops in Boston set to double

CuppaCoffee, which serves coffee and Australian meat pies on Merrimac Street, is planning a second location in the 275 Albany St. residential development.

Although the location would double the number of Australian-owned coffee shops in Boston, it would only represent a 33% increase in the number of Australian meat-pie places - in addition to CuppaCoffee, KO Pies sells the meat pies at locations in East Boston and South Boston.

When finished, 275 Albany will house 400 apartments in two buildings, across the street from the Ink Block project.

The offices of the mayor and at-large City Councilor Michelle Wu supported the proposed coffee shop/meat-pie place, which would be open from 6 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. There was no opposition. The board votes tomorrow whether to grant a food serving license.

Went to their Merrimac Street location last September, first visit. Bought a House Blend, it was excellent! :)

Good luck at the second location!

Isn't Flat Black Australian?

Yeah, they've got the kangaroo thing going, but their Web site says they're paying homage to an Australian coffee blend, which isn't quite the same. But I stand open to a better argument.

CuppaCoffee and KO are both owned by Australians.

It's flat white... and yes. I haven't managed to bring myself to try the Starbucks atrocity...

Flat White is a Starbucks drink. Flat Black Coffee is a Boston based coffee shop.

They're referring to Flat Black Coffe Co. and I'm not sure how you can refer to Starbuck's flat white as an atrocity if you say you haven't tried it.

Please don't degrade the building by referring to it as 275 Albany.

Actually I still cant grasp the concept of luxury living right next to the expressway. Even with the sealed windows and filters in their HVAC system, the noise is still there and the carbon monoxide is too. I once worked in a building next to the Pike and the noise never went away.

Atlanta markets luxury condos by how well they overlook the interstate. Seriously.

Therefor luxury.

End of conversation!

Anon:

Maybe the numerous Canada Goose coats and yoga pants that will fill the closets at The Troy will buffer out the highway noise.

As a South End resident myself (in the real South End, not that no-man's land), I can assure you that the custom-installed stereo systems in the condos and apartments belonging to all those trust fund kids who think they live in a Frat House will block out the highway noises as they drool on themselves playing their video games and movies. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if people driving on the neighboring highways complained about THEM.

Can anyone here make a rough estimate on how many internet friendly coffee shops the boston area has. A lot of new ones have opened up recently, my favorite cafe was the Borders book store cafe in the Cambridgeside galleria, long gone now..
