The folks at the Boston City Archives wonder if you can place this photo. See it larger.
Since the Casey Overpass has been in the U-Hub news so much lately, I'm going to go with the Forest Hills area (which, given my track record on these things, means it's probably somewhere in Southie.)
Looks like it could possibly be the ramps from South Street up toward the Arboretum. I'm using context clues here, too.
But hey, check out that steam shovel, back when they were actually steam powered!
Downtown Crossing, circa 2013?
That is Ashmont Station.
I am old enough to remember that ramp that is under construction in the middle of the photo. It was removed 1979-1981.
Here is the aerial from the City of Boston from the late 40's. .
in the background are still there today. They are the last four houses on the deadend street of Beale Street next to Ashmont Station.
Comm Ave and Mass Ave in the Back Bay?
Either Fields Corner or Ashmont.
Somewhere near Shawmut Station.
Where ever that is, they are probably still working on it.
That looks like the Ashmont MTA station under construction....and the streetcar line that connected it to Mattapan Station. I am sitting in the Florida Panhandle missing the hell out of them both....
Thanks for playing, folks! This was taken on November 30, 1927 during the construction of Ashmont Station. It was taken from Ashmont Street looking towards the station.
