Two doctors to pay restitution to patients they illegally charged for drug treatments

A Dedham pediatrician and a Sharon psychiatrist will pay nearly $446,000 in restitution and fines to settle allegations they charged patients for access to a drug aimed at battling their drug addiction that the state required be provided for free.

Both Masoud Shahidi of Dedham and Joshua Golden charged illegal fees to patients covered by the state's MassHealth plan for treatment with suboxone, the state Attorney General's office reports.

In a statement, Attorney General Maura Healey said:

These doctors took advantage of low income patients struggling with addiction, forcing them to pay illegal fees for Suboxone services.
