Two robbed at gunpoint in Cambridge overnight

Cambridge Police report two men were robbed at gunpoint in the span of a few minutes in Area 4, likely by the same two guys.

Around midnight, a man walking down Norfolk Street towards Central Square was approached by a man who asked him for change for a $5 bill, police say:

When the victim stated he didn’t have any money, the suspect lifted up his shirt and showed a black gun. Another suspect then told the suspect carrying the gun to ask the victim for his phone. The suspects fled the area once they obtained the victim’s phone.

Around 12:04 a.m. another man walking in the area of Norfolk and Washington streets reports two men approached him from behind:

He was told to empty his pockets. After initially refusing, one of the suspects pointed a black gun at him, while the other suspect searched the victim’s pockets. After running down Washington Street towards Columbia Street, the suspect with the gun dropped it on the ground. During an investigation, the Cambridge Police recovered a BB gun and a magazine cartridge.

In both cases, the suspects are black and in their teens or early 20s. One was about 5'8" and thin, in black and white zebra-stripe pants, the other had a large build and wore a dark hoodie.

At Norfolk and Washington. And go door to door and tell residents. I'd bet that anybody on the street who doesn't have access to the teenage grapevine has no idea that this happened.

They had a big splashy gun buy-back at the Columbia end of Washington last weekend, 55 guns turned in. They need to follow that up with some shoe-leather community-oriented policing.

I'm a little out of touch with what the kids are wearing these days but I'm not seeing a lot of dudes walking around in zebra-striped pants. I think that might narrow it down.

Sure seems to be a lot of replica weapon and BB gun robberies these days.
