I spent a lot of time following the BPS budget process including when Walsh presented his budget at a breakfast, at school committee hearings including public testimony, city council hearings including public testimony, parent protest at Marty's state of the city address, two student walkouts both of which included giving testimony, one at the state house and city hall, and the second at city hall only, one walk-in protest, and two Reclaim our Schools protests on vacation week. Protestors went to the mayors office and the governors office and asked to be heard but were refused. Marty Walsh never attended in any of the school committee or city council hearings. Students and parents could not be more clear regarding their asks for public education in Boston. The mayor could not be more detached from his own policy and feedback from the people.

Now we learn that the mayor's people have been planning, based on a flawed report from McKinsey, to close 30-50 public schools and that his facilities plan will be used to push that agenda. This is not what the people want.

So when I read BPCAT's announcement I recognize all of the frustrations parents and students advocating for funding public education have dealing with the Walsh administration. He doesn't listen. He doesn't learn. One term Marty.
