City cracks down on nitrous-oxide balloons in the Fenway tonight

Boston Police confiscated several nitrous-oxide tanks in the area outside the Dead & Company concert at Fenway Park tonight. After police interrupted the sale of balloons filled with the gas, firefighters collected the tanks for disposal.

It's amazing to me that they felt the need to crack down on a bunch of Suburbanite, middle aged Dead Heads having fun at a concert while the sale and spread of K2 (synthetic Marijuana) is virtually being ignored by our local authorities.

It is an epidemic killing people, rampant with violence and highly addictive. It is everywhere we look and is just as pervasive as Heroin.

They are so full of shit.

Is this your idea of harmless fun?

Last night due to this gas, so medical professionals wanted to see if maybe they could cut that number down tonight.

Did you really think a bunch of guys sat down last night and thought there was too much "fun" going on and they had to stop it?

I did a lot of nitrous as a young man (a long, long time ago), some of my buds went to med school returning aghast at how dangerous it can be.

I remember a news story where there were some kids in northern Virginia who had a tank in their car. One of the kids decided to take a hit directly from the tank instead of a balloon, froze his brain stem & died. Granted, that's not really "caused" by the nitrous but still worthy of at least a Darwin award nomination.

was in a newsmagazine story back in the early '90s that was something like "Rave Culture: Threat or Menace?" Anyway these two young men were riding around in a compact pickup truck that had a sliding rear window. They had a cylinder of giggle gas in the bed with the regulator sticking into the cab and they were taking hits off the regulator. The regulator stuck open and either the N2O displaced all the O2 in the truck cab and they suffocated, or they got so high on nitrous that the driver lost control of the truck and they crashed and died.

from consideration for a Darwin Award (smoking while taking oxygen and whizzing on a electric fence among them), mainly because they are considered common and deliberate actions where the inevitable outcome is expected. Although it's not specifically included on the current list of exemptions, deliberately inhaling nitrous directly from a tank should clearly rule one out for a Darwin.

We were doing this back in 1971 when the Dead were still alive. My question is, is it the old timers or is it the wannabees who feel they missed it all the first time around?

Don't try this in your car, kids!

Or old folks - this song is 25+ years old.
