Dead train near Fairmount, but riders get no discount

An exhausted outbound Fairmount Line bought the farm just before Fairmount station and now the T says there are delays of 30 to 40 minutes, which is roughly twice as long as it would take the average adult to just get out and walk from Fairmount to the end of the line at Readville (yes, of course, unlike every other line, the Fairmount Line is not named for the last stop).

What evidence rules out any possibilities including legal actions?

Could a transfer type chit be made available for a future trip from kind MBTA staff or Keolis Commuter Services? Or upon boarding the next, explain what happened and get waved on without further fare?

Not entirely true. The Fitchburg line's last stop is Wachusett. The Franklin Line's last stop is Forge Park. The Providence Line's last stop is Wickford Junction.

The lines aren't named for the last stop at all - they're named for the major city or cities they reach.

Not rail, but the #51 bus previously tagged as "Cleveland Circle" for decades was renamed "Reservoir" this past year.

Indeed, the bus does go to Reservoir Station and not Cleveland Circle which is about a block walk beyond that. That renaming happened with no fanfare as far as I can tell - or notification?

There is room for rail lines to get renamed if they so choose.

Yeah, of course they theoretically could, but why would they? What's the benefit of having the line named for the endpoint rather than the biggest city along it? This isn't even just aversion to change.

The Lowell Line is the New Hampshire Main

Until relatively recently, the Providence Line actually ended in Providence and the Fitchburg Line went to Fitchburg and no further. Did the Fairmount Line ever terminate right at Fairmount?

Since 3 lines go through It's just like how they renamed the Orange Line station in Jamaica Plain that is at Boylston Street before the Southwest Corridor actually opened so that there would be only one Boylston Street station.

Of course, they coud just call it by its original name, the Midland Line, to make things easier.

I kinda wish they would go back to using the historical names for the lines sometimes... it's more interesting. Even if it would probably be more confusing to non-regular riders.
