Fire erupts in Hyde Park house

A three-alarm fire at 11 Ellis St. sent a firefighter to the hospital with chest pains and did an estimated $350,000 in damage, the Boston Fire Department reports.

The department reports the fire, called in around 11:40 a.m., started outside and spread to the two-family house. Seven people were displaced, the department says.

Drove past at about 1:45, and it looked like every emergency vehicle in Boston was on the scene, either on Ellis, or right across River. At least a dozen fire trucks, BFD fire investigators, a half dozen BPD cruisers, a couple of staties, Red Cross relief truck.

According to the National Weather Service:

Elevated fire weather potential expected again late Sunday
morning and Sunday afternoon...

Area fire weather officials are advising on elevated fire weather
potential again late Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon. Wind
gusts on Sunday will be lighter than what we experienced
today... generally between 15 and 20 mph with the strongest of
those across southeast New England. However... temperatures will be
warmer than today and minimum relative humidity values will drop
to between 10 and 25 percent.

Given that it has been dry and our area is still in pre-Greenup... there
will be an elevated risk for fire spread potential.

This is the time of year when this sort of fire seems to happen - dry, pre-greenup, considerable winds mean that an outdoor fire quickly builds to take over a structure. I seem to recall a couple of very large apartment blocks going up in past years due to fires that started outside.

Very sad for this family.

This is terrible. Sorry for the people who ended up being displaced as a result of this fire, and for the fireman who was sent to the hospital with chest pains. Here's hoping that everybody comes out okay.
