The folks at the Boston City Archives wonder if you can place this scene. See it larger.
Sarah Cowell LeMoyne appeared in Boston in early 1901.
Probably around March 11-17, 1901, according to the theater schedule in the New York Clipper (everyone's go-to for theater listings from 1823-1924).
CCA Cigars is listed at 376 Atlantic Ave a few years later, so I'm going with that. Also because it seems to be Boston City Archives' favorite street.
There's a little person sitting on top of each, hard to see but looks like a racist caricature.
That's what each of them says. Looks like they are all copies of this thing.
Good detective work!
Those of you who guessed Atlantic Avenue in March of 1901 are correct! This is Atlantic Ave, just north of Beach Street on March 18, 1901.
You're right that we do like photos of this street. One of the reasons that we often post photos of this area is that Atlantic Ave tended to be plastered in various advertisements, which make the photos fun and also give you some clues to date with. Now that our followers have wised up, we may have to start being more clever....
