Mt. Mulchmore catches fire again

The Bulletin reports on what has now become the annual fire at the giant pile of mulch at Landscape Express on American Legion Highway in Mattapan.

I was walking with my husband Saturday night past the gas station next to the Pine Street Inn and we noticed sparks and smoke coming from the mulch in front. We stomped on it and moved the mulch and went on our way. When we were walking back to Broadway after dinner, we noticed it was still smoking and had more sparks. We let the gas station know what was happening.

Mulch strikes again.

Our last order of the black hemlock mulch from them appeared to contain more colored wood dust than visible wood chunks. Bet the powdered dust burns way better than the larger bits.

Landscape Express ships in all their product. And their mulches are from uncertified sources and have dyes added.

If you want site-prepared mulch from no-herbicide sources, go across the street to the locally-owned City-Soil (who also provide mulch to the city's community gardens).

(btw I've got no relationship to them other than being a satisfied customer).
