Mystery boom rattles Roslindale

Several Roslindale residents reported hearing a big boom shortly after 10:40 p.m., apparently centered on the area of Healy Field. People closer to Forest Hills and on Metropolitan Hill also heard it.

Roslindale hasn't had a good mystery boom since the Fallon Field booms back in 2012.

Around 11:30 p.m., the Eversource outage map showed just five customers without power in the entire city (they don't break it down by neighborhood), so we're probably not talking about a transformer exploding but instead about somebody just back from New Hampshire with an M-80 or two. Or aliens.

To sit the grand kids on the knee and tell them about the Great Fallon Field Booms of 2012 …

I live a block-plus from Healy field and can confirm we heard it.

It sounded like an M-80 or 'quarter stick.'

I put on my scanner but there was no discernible response from PD and no fire dispatch so as far as I can tell nothing blew up.

They went on until 2012 and mysteriously stopped. Often wondered if the Tsarnaev brothers had found a good place to test their devices/detonators. Hope it's just a transformer or kids w firworks but equally hope BPD and homeland security looking into this. Or just call me paranoid....

But then a question:

I've never heard of any evidence about where they tested these things. So if they didn't test their construction methods - they got it right on the first try with instructions off the internet making them on a kitchen table - and batted a thousand.

Or they had outside help.

Has to be one or the other - though of course - not necessarily a connection to Rozzie booms.

if people heard it from walk hill area all the way to met hill, it had to be more than a quarter stick.
