New wall mural in Allston
By HarryMattison on Mon, 05/30/2016 - 1:05pm
Caleb Neelon recently painted this mural on Lincoln Street. Nice to see some color and happiness on the wall where the X-Men once lived

Nice!
We spotted this is yesterday as we passed on the bus. I still kind of miss the old mural on that building, just silhouettes on a white background of people painting on the wall.
The Xmen mural was bettah

you mean.......
...those little fighting fish?
I Love LA (Lower Allston)
I lived a couple blocks from there for the 2nd half of the 80's. I always loved the old painting of the silhouettes and used to shoot tennis balls off that wall with a hockey stick for hours. The new painting is cool and a nice change from the Xman.
Waltham
The same artist has done a cool mural on Moody Street in Waltham.
Lacking
I live near Union Square in Somerville where we already have 3 of these, and believe me, they grow old quickly. They display a distinct lack of talent rivaled only by the Not Art tagger. I could understand if they were created by community kids doing something as part of summer project, but to keep celebrating an adult (presumably art school grad) with commissions for such uninspiring work is frustrating. Boston has had some terrific murals reflecting the history, diversity, and culture of the city, but these are just empty, vapid.
And have you seen what it replaces?
I'll take something colorful over a giant white wall that keeps getting defaced with graffiti any day (although my favorite there is still the mural of the Boston skyline with the outlines of people that the owner of the building let taggers fill in - as long as they left the rest of the wall alone).
Minimalism
I would prefer a giant blank wall that does not get defaced by graffiti, but I guess a mural is better than graffiti until they can make drones that go after people with spray paint by shooting lasers at them.
Editted to add that we may not be so far from such, [or closer than Half Life 3 release date anyhow]:

Meh
spray paint comes in white too. What other bright ideas you got?
