This is no lark: Train is dead at Park

The T, which seems to have stopped announcing just how serious the delays are, is reporting delays on the Red Line due to a train that got to Park Street and could go no more.

I seem to recall some new initiative from the T a while back that kept track of statistics for things like this. Can someone find that? I'm curious how things are going comparatively.

Though I officially no longer buy the data, because it shows the Orange Line as having 91% reliability on Tuesday, which is actually above average - despite service being suspended for something like 2 hours.

This question has nothing in particular to do with this post, but figured I could catch the eye of some fellow T-gripers: does the MBTA offer even an ostensible explanation for why so many of the train arrival time LED signs are blank on weekends? Often it will even be the case that at the same station one direction's signs are blank and the other's are operating normally. I feel like this is just part of the MBTA's conception that everyone who rides the T is a 9-5 office worker, and who needs service or signage on the weekends anyway because that's just when you take a leisurely ride out to the polo game or whatever.

Most of the time its because of the shuttle busses. They dont have active trains running from end to end, so no LED signs. When service is open , the signs work. I work weekends.

For some odd reason, the signs only display the time when the subway is not going to its usual destination, usually because of construction. For the past few weekends, there have been shuttles between JFK and Braintree or North Quincy and Braintree, which might explain that. This weekend expect the alewife signs to not have countdowns because all trains are terminating at Harvard. Note that this is anecdotal but what I've observed every construction weekend since they activated the signs. I don't know why the signs can't show "N Quincy" or "Harvard" instead of the normal destinations when necessary.

I've seen that question Tweeted to the T before. Their response was that the countdown clocks are often shut off during weekend track work. For instance, this weekend the Red Line is busing between Harvard and Alewife. I'm guessing the countdown clocks will be shut down all around the Red Line.

So far I've seen this happen mostly when there's construction with shuttle trains that aren't running the full length of the line.

As I understand it, this happens when one of the branches is being bussed for the weekend, e.g. JFK<->Ashmont. May happen this coming weekend with Alewife<->Harvard being bussed.

Will they be doing the shuttles again where EVERY shuttle bus has to stop at Davis, or will they route at least a few buses going express between Harvard and Alewife?

This will be the fourth time since Sunday that the red line is disabled. Glad they are ready for winter at the MBTA!!!

Maybe the route 2 and route 128 expansions should be put on hold until all the bridges and roads in the state as well as the MBTA are in a state of good repair.
