No secret snow emergency: DPW crew spent day picking up space savers

Boston workers picking up space savers after snow storm

Despite what the city was telling at least one Brighton resident, people didn't have 48 hours for saving a space they'd marked. Jenna spotted this DPW truck on O Street in South Boston this afternoon with the bed full of cones and other items people had used as space savers.

Gordon Bedford wonders if the city will use all the cones for a Burning Man-like structure and set it ablaze.

Are they really space savers or has someone figure out how to scam a trash limit that some towns have.

Next time I need to get rid of crap, I am waiting for a snow storm.

Boston pretty much picks up any type of trash if you just call ahead of time and let them know.

No need to use the ridiculous and childish space saver system.

Not cab.

Who am I kidding? Nitpicking is exactly what I'm doing. Anyway,

...with the cab full of cones and other items...

-- the cab is where the people sit. The bed is where you carry your cones and other items.

If they were really tossing things in the cab, that would be something.

And in Boston it's PWD not DPW.

As I drove by the guy looked a little scared, I think he thought I was going to claim the space saver. The only job less popular than a parking agent. Although it was nice to see for myself.

What do they do with it all? There's gotta be at least a half decent second-hand market for orange cones...

start at $15 each at Home Depot!

But I imagine most of those cones were stolen from various city agencies in the first place, and therefore, will be returned to back into the city's cone pool.

You mean the orange cones that the space savers stole from public works sites in the first place?

Technically space savers are only allowed when a snow emergency declared, which hasn't happened with any of the storms yet this season...

Maybe it's time to stop the space-saver threads. Everything that could possibly be said has been said, anything useful has long since been mined out of it, any minds that were changed have long since been changed, and what's left is about as entertaining as monkeys flinging feces at the zoo.
