Obligatory Boston-area resident on next Survivor is a BPD bike cop

Meet Bret LaBelle, a sergeant who's been on the force for 18 years. And yes, he rocks the accent, which is a requirement for all Bostonians on the show.

You want me to watch a video promoting your next season of "Survivor" but expect me to sit through a commercial for YouTube first, before I can watch YOUR commercial?

That will be the day.

Because while the guy's on BPD, he actually lives in Dedham.

Let's hope he represents Boston well, like "Boston Rob" did before on the show.

he lives in Dedham. He can represent Dedham.

- The Original SoBo Yuppie who represents Boston!

Nicer homes in Dedham though, and less fake yuppies.

You can't find my beautiful penthouse condo with a great view of Boston in Dedham.

...and the yuppie population is much greater in SoBo which is a good thing.

Real yuppies left Southie in the 1990s, the fake ones remain.

Presumably, you mean "let's hope he represents the selfish, manipulative, back-stabbing Boston like Boston Rob did." Of course, those are pretty much the only kind of people who make it onto the show, and certainly the only kind who win on it.

Believe it or not, people born here do actually have an accent. And it is authentic, despite the views of many people that move here from other parts. You don't "rock an accent" like you would rock an outfit or a new pair of shades. You either have it from a youth spent here, or you don't. I wonder if people who grew up in Texas get called out on their southern accents by people in their own cities?

I'm kind of fond of the local accent myself, and I meant no slight towards people who have it. I was commenting, perhaps too obliquely, on the fact that Survivor seems to go out of its way to always have at least one contestant from the Boston area who speaks with a pronounced Boston accent. Remember Boston Rob - from Canton?

Hope the Patrolmen's Union is OK with him being filmed the whole time he's on the island.

How?

I can't speak for Pete, but I suspect he knows that BPD sergeants aren't members of the patrolmen's union because they have their own union (along with lieutenants).

He isn't a patrolman. So, not in the union.

I've known Bret for years, He's actually a pretty sweet, funny guy, and isn't really a 'masshole' though I am sure Survivor may try to depict him that way. You have to remember that any reality TV is heavily edited so as to make it more interesting, and the producers / writers try to force conflict - why do you think most shows have a heavyset 'sassy' black girl, flamboyant gay guy, and a hot headed southern girl (as well as the Boston and NYC accented archetypes)

If you think that reality TV shows are just a bunch of folks hanging out around cameras, you are either 14 years old, or horribly naïve.

Go Bret!
