There's way more to the story than Global Heartbleed, I mean Boston Globe, wants us to believe.

Standoff lasting multiple hours gives you plenty of time to flush drugs down the toilet and find a good place to stash your illegal guns, for example. I'm not buying that whole "we're all naturalized citizens but we forgot English all of a sudden and we had no idea what "police" and "open up" meant" story.

Hmmm - so what would be a reasonable amount of time for an innocent person to respond to a warrantless search at 4:30am exactly?

I'm not asking as a point of debate. I'm just curious what you are wiling to tolerate.

even if I came out with my hands up.

Seeing as how the police won't even say if there was a credible call I have a feeling they needlessly raided this house. Why did the police need to cause so much damage to the apartments?

Why did they refuse to obey orders ?

The article claims they didn't understand the orders to leave since they don't speak much english.

It's not much of an excuse but neither is lack of confirming the original call which led the police to the residence nor an explanation as to why they needed to physically damage the apartment.

NOBODY speaks English in Revere.

They have been charged with no crime, they were apparently doing nothing apart from sleeping, why the hell should they have agreed to be violently forced out of their homes? Fun how if these were white people, they simply would have been "standing their ground"

Revere PD should have found an interpreter to ensure accurate communication, and if they dont have one on staff or access to a list of qualified interpreters, then they don't know their community very well.

The article says they were frozen in fear and couldn't find understand English very well. Is there a place for them to learn English if they are citizens planning on staying here, getting into the workworld, registering to vote, and pay taxes? There may be an advocacy program that will teach them for no cost.

One guy in the apt said he had worked a 13 hour shift.

I'd like to know more about what caused the police to go there, if in fact it was a 911 call about gun shots or not.

People who live in greater Boston speak 129 different languages. Kids will learn English in school, adults may or may not.

Police depts. could plan to have a translator on call for situations when one is necessary.

WBZ/TV38 news covered the story and played the 911 tape Revere PD provided. You hear someone call and say they heard shots coming from that address.

The newsreader reports Revere PD said they called in State Police after they arrived.

They don't say if they traced the caller or if they found a gun or if they found a bullet.

The newsreader said they did take person or people who lived there into custody, and they did release them without arrest.

Um, Dan, from one Chieftain to another. You appear to have a fairly rotten department up there at the end of the Blue Line.

This is a department where an off duty cop was killed back in 2007 while drinking outside of the high school, like he was still in high school, by another group of people drinking at the other end of the school. Insults were exchanged by a bunch of tough guys and someone ended up dead. It could not be more pathetic.

For the Suffolk County DA's office and the Staties not to immediately back the cops over this raid / pogrom is a clear sign that something is wrong in Wonderlandia.

Why does the city of Revere need a SWAT team?Beside Boston and the State Police why do we need all these teams, wouldn't the funds spent on all these teams be better spent on community policing?

On Sunday Morning at approximately 4:30 A.M., Revere Police received a cellphone call through its 911 system and responded to22 Francis Street. The caller reported he lived at “22 Francis Ave.” and there were shots being fired inside “22 Francis Ave.” in unit #2. The caller stated he had to go back in to 22 Francis and gets his child out. Attempts were made to call back the reporting party, who did not answer.

Responding officers on the scene reported an odor of burnt gun powder. As officers attempted to make contact with the occupants of 22 Francis St. #2, the lights were turned off and people were seen moving window curtains in an attempt to shut them out. After numerous attempts by officers to get the residents out, including knocking on doors and the use of a loud speaker, the occupants refused to come to the door.

At this point, a perimeter was established and the Special Operations Unit was deployed. The occupants of Apartment #1 and the basement were evacuated (not taken into custody). They were taken to the Revere Police Station Community Room and provided with water, coffee and food.

Officers learned that the dwelling was being utilized as a rooming house and unit #2 had several tenants. Neighbors additionally reported to officers that the basement unit contained women and children.

Three occupants of unit #2 eventually came out at the officer’s request and reported there were additional people inside. A fourth person then exited after several additional requests on the loud speaker. The Special Operations Negotiator directed a fifth occupant to call 911. He spoke with communications personnel and was convinced to exit the apartment.

A sixth person still refused to exit. At that point, a chemical irritant was introduced in to the occupied bedroom and he exited the rear door. The apartment was secured and a search warrant was approved. The apartment was searched for a weapon with negative results. The matter is still under investigation.
