Police search for whoever starved, burned dog in Watertown

Starving pit bull found in Watertown

Watertown Police report they are looking for whoever tortured this dog:

He wandered into the Home Depot on Arsenal St on Saturday June 4, 2016 at approximately 6:00 AM. He has numerous lesions that may be cigarette burns and each ear has had a small notch cut into them. He weighs in at 26 pounds which is less than half of what a healthy weight would be for this breed. The dog is very friendly and is being called “Sully Doe” until we can properly ID him. Anyone who may recognize this dog or have information that could identify the owner(s) please contact Watertown Animal Control Officer Karen O’Reilly at 617-972-6446.

How could anybody starve a dog like that and then burn him to death? The person who did that must've been a sadist. Here's hoping that s/he goes to jail, if they're found!

obviously this dog is in need of a loving home, any word on where a person may adopt him?

High visibility cases like this usually result in many good-hearted people like you who want to adopt the animal, but this dog is probably not a candidate for adoption right now. With severe medical issues, he probably won't be for a while. At that point, he may require a very special owner, one who's had experience rehabbing and resocializing abused animals. At the same time, there are many cases that don't make the headlines, but where the need is just as great. Another thing, if you want to help this dog specifically, would be to donate to help pay for his medical care and other needs.

have been posting updates (and photos!) on Facebook. From the comments, he has been to the vet, is doing well and is being taken care of in someone's home.

Any particular reason they chose that name?

And yet, despite what he's gone through, the dog is described as "very friendly". It's amazing, and very humbling.

...but for how much many of them have gone through and stayed sweet and loving towards people...they're basically superdogs.

They have their share of issues but they are generally so gentle towards people and so tolerant of strangers.

The fact that there's a psychopath walking around who could do this to an animal is chilling.

Given what this poor animal endured, that description ("very friendly") makes me well up a bit. Then again, the more Stanford rape/Trump racist/man's inhumanity to man stories I read, the further I move towards team dog.

Raise 'em right parents because lord knows humans excel at pumping out shitbags.

"Try to be the person your dog thinks you are." Pretty good yardstick, no?

If you are interested in adopting a pit bull, you have many great options including"

The MSPCA: https://www.mspca.org/adoption-search/

Pittie Love Rescue: http://www.pittieloverescue.org/adopt-a-dog/adoptable-dogs/

My wife and I have been a pit bull foster home for several years now, opening our house to make room in the shelters, but the shelters are still usually full. We've come to love this type of dog, because despite their often unfortunate backgrounds (abuse, neglect, dogfighting) they tend to be super loyal, loveable, playful pets.

By special request, here's the roster we fostered in 2015:

With any luck, the authorities will find this loser tied up with ropes and wedged behind the third rail.

Worst case of suicide ever.

If I believed in hell, I would hope that there would be a special place in it for those who do this sick fuckery to animals.

I am totally with you on that one. Only cowards abuse animals. Completely disgusting and worthless piece of trash!
