Red Line again a mess, lots of riders under stress

Park Street Red Line station is crowded

Park Street under the weather. Photo by Meri.

A Red Line train came up lame at Central Square and now the line is awful in both directions. Of course. Even T workers are joining in the testiness:

The staff at Kendall just had the gall to yell at us for blocking the entrances.

At 5:17 p.m., Brett pinged the outside world:

Greetings from somewhere underground between Andrew and JFK. Signal problems. Been here 10 min. Send pizza.

Things hadn't gotten any better by 5:40 p.m., when Kate Wilson reported:

40 min wait for a #redline train at park st. An embarrassment and public safety hazard with packed platforms and trains

The T will be amazing when Charlie's reforms bear fruit in 7 years or so.

Usually they are smart enough to ditch their vests and hide out from the angry mobs.

I waited 15 minutes for a Alewife train @ Kendall around 5:15. One of the workers had the audacity to tell people to find another way "home". That might work if you live a stop away vs an hour and a half away. SMH

To get on that train. I waited 45 minutes from 5-5:45, also on the Kendall outbound platform. The first three trains had no space, I barely squeezed onto the 4th.

And it's all repeating today.

#2: KEEP TO THE RIGHT going up and down stairs.

Have you ever ridden the Red Line at rush hour?

I used to work in Kendall, and had to board the Red Line southbound there. That platform fills up QUICKLY. Any sort of service interruption and it gets FULL. There were several times the crowd filled up the platform, and the lobbies, and the stairs to the street, and part of the sidewalk. It's not quite as simple as "don't block the gates".

Also, yes, you should keep to the right going up and down stairs, but when there are a thousand people trying to squeeze up or down the same staircase, they're going to fill all of it. Keep right only really works off-peak.
