Revamped Roslindale playground already a big hit

New playground at Fallon Field in Roslindale

Workers unwrapped the new playground at Fallon Field yesterday and word quickly got out - kids and parents swarmed the place well after sunset. Chris Kollett, one of the parents who pushed for the revamp, as part of an effort to get more play spaces in the neighborhood, took a bunch of photos today, including one from the very top of the slide - the longest in Boston:

Yes, the slide has a bit of risk for kids, but that's a good thing.

There are also attractions for littler kids at the playground at Walworth and South streets, as Michael Glaum illustrates with a photo of his tot's first time on a swing:

Is the slide safe for adults? Asking for a friend.

It's apparently 4.5 seconds from top to bottom. But no stairs: You're going to have to climb up that ropey thing.

A big thank you to all those who made this happen! Special thanks go to Adam Rogoff and Chris Kollett. Roslindale families have been waiting for a special playground like this for years. Now let's push ahead and get the equipment installed for the climber at Pagel Field! And then we need to push for the state/Parks to redo the Sherrington Woods playground!
Lookin good, Rosi!

The playground looks wonderful. Congratulations to everyone who made it happen. It was very special to see my Granddaughter enjoying her first swing. I am here on the West Coast and I think she is adorable, too!

My daughter absolutely loved it. Credit to the community activists, the Mayor and Parks/Rec for doing a fantastic job upgrading the playground and the hockey rink last year. As a nearby resident I'm extremely happy my three children have fine local facilities I'm just a bit sad that Old Man Winter is right around the corner.
