Spot of good news for Green Line Extension

WBUR reports a federal muckymuck says simpler, less expensive plans for the Green Line Extension seem OK with her.

Federal approval is vital since without it, we'll lose roughly $1 billion in money for the extension. Of course, the state is still playing the Dread Pirate Roberts role - "Good night, Green Line Extension, good work, sleep well, I'll most likely kill you in the morning."

Baker will kill it as soon as he is re-elected (if he is, but giving how much money the GOP is throwing at him, it seems like a done deal). It is no coincidence his administation said they wont begin construction until at the earliest 18 months, which just happens to be after the election. Coward. He says the T fee increases are just getting it to be near levels of other systems (like NY) but beside the much shorter distance you can travel on the T and shorter hours, tunnel tolls are over $5 in NY, and only the airport tunnels cost anything and are 3.50, the 93 tunnel is still free as are all the bridges except the tobin coming to Boston. Make the gas and tunnel/bridge fees equal to other cities and then you can say the T is too cheap Baker.

The current system is in a state of disrepair. To even suggest the system should be expanded without a plan to pay for deferred maintenance is insane. Also, I'm so sick of clowns like you with a hard on for light rail. Get a fucking Lionel set.

Any future system expansion should be via a bus rapid transit line. Before you light rail horn dogs reply, look up what a bus rapid transit line actually is. (The silver line doesn't meet the definition)

Bus rapid transit if done properly doesn't suck, but it has its own maintenance costs, so I'm not sure it really addresses your concerns. Plus, figuring out where to put a separate right of way is not an easy task, especially if you want a no-transfer ride to downtown. The nice thing about light rail is we already have a tunnel.

Real BRT would be great but would never work here because the people who drive all over the city would scream about losing parking to a separated bus line.
