Adriel, found alone at a playground

UPDATE: WCVB reports police have found the parents but add the child remains in DCF care.

Boston Police are seeking the public's help to find the parents or guardians of Adriel, a boy believed to be two or three who was found alone at Ryan Playground, 310 River St. in Mattapan around 6:30 p.m. yesterday.

"At this time, no one has come forward to report him missing," police say today. He's about 30 lbs. and was wearing a gray T-shirt and riding a red tricycle. He's currently under DCF care, police say.

Anybody with information can contact DCF at 617-640-1825 or B-3 Detectives at 617-343-4712 - or the anonymous tip line by calling 800-494-TIPS or by texting TIP to CRIME (27463).

how do you forget you are watching someone's child?

Hopefully the police have checked the hospitals to see if the kid might belong to someone who has checked in recently.

This story breaks my heart, and my heart is made of coal. No kid should ever have to go through this. That cute little face. Makes me so sad knowing that some kids just are never given a fair shot at life. Let's hope it's all just a big misunderstanding and he goes home to a loving family.

The kids an angel, how can anyone leave him behind.

Now make sure they have full access to contraception (free to them if need be) so that this doesn't happen to somebody who doesn't already exist.

They don't have to use it, but I want condoms/pills/vasectomies/whatever at arm's length for them. I'll drive them to PP myself if they have no conveyance.

If needed, should come first.

Breaks my heart - little dude looks a lot like a latte version of my older son at that age. I just want to hug him and take care of him.

Imagine the outrage directed at O-FISH-L if he posted something containing this phrase!

Not if he posted it that way.

The outrage with people like you and Fish is that references to minorities are frequently followed by the worst sort of stereotypical dehumanizing bullshit imaginable.

Saying a kid looks like your kid is hardly that - but you not knowing the difference speaks volumes about your tribal nonsense.

Can't see O-Fish-Bait ever comparing a black kid to one of his own, or saying that he wanted to love and care for him.

That's too funny. Fish would love to see this kid starve to death or be deported.

WCVB updated their story again saying the child is still in dcf custody.

You do not 'forget' your young child at a playground, or, as has happened again recently in Texas, strapped to a car seat in a hot car, while you go inside and take a nap. That child died. The father who did that was an otherwise responsible adult.

This might be something horrible or it might be one of those stupid custody things where mom thinks dad has the child or vice-versa, where neither is intentionally awful. Might make sense to hold off judgment for just a bit.

Are you serious? There are no "maybe this, or maybe that" when it comes to the life of a child. He could have been kidnapped, raped, and murdered....as so often we hear about. You've got to be kidding...the mother thought the father had him, and the father thought the mother had him?????? NO~~!!! There can be no foolish mistakes when it comes to your children. Foolish response to a tragic situation whereby there is no justification for a child left alone in a park.

They may have left him with relatives who proved to be untrustworthy or medically worse off than they knew.

People like you have destroyed childhood.

When I was quite young, my parents dropped me off at my grandparents house and went on a rare vacation. Grandma worked nights and had to sleep during the day. I got bored and went to the park. I stayed there until I got hungry, and went back to wake my grandma to make food.

I was maybe 4?

Had some busybody decided that kids shouldn't be at the park because busybody, my parents would not have known about it because they were travelling.

This didn't used to be a thing. Stop panicking and parent blaming. The kid is okay. The parents may have been out of town and thought that Ma or Uncle Jo or Auntie Sue would be okay with the kid, when they may not have been okay and have been hiding that.

This kid seemed well taken care of, excepting of course being left at the playground. While I think everyone would claim that they would not have done this, wires do get crossed, especially if multiple relatives are involved.

I grew up a white boy in Canton. When I was around 3 or 4 years old, my family was visiting my grandparents in Dorchester and I walked out the door and up to the park. It was about three blocks up the street and it was a fun park. My parents weren't addicts or drug takers. They were parents with five kids and I was too young to know any better.

But nobody reported him missing. Overnight??? I'm sorry he is a baby. Didn't somebody miss putting him to bed that night? I am not jumping to blame the parents but somebody is at fault. This isn't a "shit happens" situation.

Where does it say that he was out overnight?

up

He wasn't out overnight in the park but he wasn't reported missing and they didn't locate parents until the next day. So my point was that he was not noticed missing by his caretaker all day and overnight until next day.

He was found at the Ryan at 6 Saturday. At 3 PM the next day he was still unclaimed. Therefore, when the rest of his family went to bed Saturday night, he was not with them. Overnight.

To be fair to the family, the Herald reports that there was some miscommunication with the extended family that lead to this.

Miscommunication??? Maybe miscommunication can happen over who fed the goldfish or not but this is a 2 year old child. I'm sorry but something is wrong here. Good people but someone obviously shouldn't be watching children.

The parents? The grandparents? Aunts and uncles?

The more people involved with a kid the better, but it can also lead to situations where each branch thinks the other one has him. This has happened before and will happen again with other children.

Whoever had him last. That's who. Whoever had him last should have noticed that he was gone and actually called someone to make sure he was with them. It's called responsibility.

up

...thought that the people who were looking after him next had him.

The family and DCF will work this out. You and I aren't the ones to judge either way.

You are right about that. We obviously have very different opinions about caring for toddlers.

And sure, I would have checked up on Jr, but he is spoiled rotten. I just understand how wires can get crossed.
