Twitter has no problems with Dorchester man's tweets threatening lives of police, EMTs
The Herald reported yesterday that a Dorchester man had posted a video to Twitter in which he threatened to kill EMTs and police officers he felt were harassing him.
A Boston EMS supervisor who saw the video and text threats says that when he reported it to Twitter, somebody at the network responded:
Hello,
Thank you for letting us know about your issue. We've investigated the account and reported Tweets for violent threats and abusive behavior, and have found that it's currently not violating the Twitter Rules (https://twitter.com/rules).
The supervisor's response to that note: "Unfuckingbeliveable."
The Herald reported the video has since been taken down.

Mental Health Problems
Given that he thinks that Ambulances and Fire Trucks are being sent to harass him it's clear he has mental health problems. Hopefully he gets help.
As for the twitter thing, it's a slippery slope. If he said the same things in a hip-hop video would it be considered a threat or just part of the music?
See true threat doctrine. It
See true threat doctrine. It is certainly possible a hip hop video threat can be a true threat, it is also possible to not be.
Nothing slippery about it. Twitter is a private company that regularly suppresses speech (as it is free to do). Certainly this reduces my respect for Twitters handling of speech but that is about all the leverage you or I have over the situation.
Disappointing action by Twitter tho, considering the shutdown of political handles for often little to nothing.

Public Service Threats
Police, fire and EMS receive threats on a daily basis from citizens with mental health problems, drunks and punks. They are also blamed for poverty, racism, sexism, and for having to tell troublesome teens the word 'no'.
I was at Forest Hills station last week when a large group of teens turned on the cops in the station and the taunts directed at the cops where just as bad as the threats above.

Thank God
Considering how hard it is to obtain an illegal weapon in Boston (and the US as a whole) it's safe to say he won't be getting his hands on a gun anytime soon.

If Trump threatened somebody on Twitter
I guarantee there would be no consequences. Nobody would take anything down. Because, Trump.
