Water straight out of the tap isn't supposed to be yellow

Yellow tap water

Kristen Adams is among several South End residents reporting their tap water started coming out yellow or brownish last night.

UPDATE: Matt Schneller reports a BWSC crew was out working on the problem this morning and that, whatever the cause was, it seems to be fixed.

Is the city flushing fire hydrants in the area? When Somerville does this, they send out a warning about possible discolored (rusty) water.

This:

s the city flushing fire hydrants in the area?

is a good question, Ron. Let's hope that it's nothing more than that. If the city of Boston is flushing out hydrants in a given area or areas, then the city should most definitely send warnings to residents about possible discoloration of their water.

This happens a lot with water main work, they try to flush out the rust/dirt through the hydrants a bit but usually give people a heads-up that they may need to run their faucets for a spell. Any construction around there?

Yellow water is local water and local water is fresh.

When I think about yellow water, nothing good comes to mind.

But at least it is a light yellow, and not an amber color. It's like they say in the running world, the lighter the better.

If it's yellow, let it mellow, if it's brown, flush it down.
