When cute teen proposals go awry

Daniel Guzman ran across this cute proposal this morning on a walk in Allandale Woods on the Jamaica Plain/West Roxbury line, marred by the fact that whoever made it felt compelled to also carve his or her feelings in the tree behind it.

This "prom proposal" thing works both ways.
The tree carving thing goes back a couple of centuries, though!
Except usually kids carved it
Except usually kids carved it into the bark. They didn't take a big slice of bark off. This kid didn't learn enough about xylem/phloem in biology class to understand what that does to a tree.
Could be, but I doubt it
In this case, I'll allow my sexist thoughts to win and say that no girl would be that stupid (but plenty of guys would.)
