Capuano: People from Boston died on 9/11, yet we remain open to immigrants

Mike Capuano, who represents a good part of Boston, spoke on the floor of the House, today:

And for those people who say 'Oh, I'm here just to protect our country,' I've been in Boston all my life. The largest numbers of people [who died on 9/11] came from New York City and Boston. It was our people who lost their lives, yet we remain humanistic and open hearted. Open your hearts to the rest of the world.

Dzokhar Tsarnaev was 8 when he arrived seeking asylum and was later granted citizenship, along with every form of welfare. ISIS has video of small child members sawing off heads. Too bad Rep. Capuano didn't mention the Islamic jihad Boston Marathon bombings, a few miles from his home, nor did he dare mention the 9/11 attacks by name, Adam provided that [who died on 9/11] in brackets.

Interesting that Capuano said this was his first "one minute" speech on the House floor in 20 years. I could have sworn that he spoke out against President Obama suddenly changing Cuban immigration policy, stranding 1000+ asylum seekers at the border earlier this month or in 2011, when Obama instituted a six month ban on Iraqi immigration. Crickets.

Dzokhar Tsarnaev wouldn't have been stopped by Trump's recent order.

None of them came from the countries on Trump's banned list.

They have no effective government to figure out who the people are you are proposing to come here.

There are plenty of Middle Eastern Muslim countries from which you can come here. They have totalitarian governments who use secret police and torture to figure out who is a terrorist.

He banned them because an unelected troll told him to do it.

Once somebody comes at you with the truth you fall back on little cute sayings.

Bannon is an unelected troll. He wrote it and told Trump to sign it without the usual judicial review of all the laws it violates.

These are facts in evidence.

is the day FISH produces his police pension statements. You're a sad little troll who has bought the Trump line unquestioningly. If I had to guess, I'd say you're screaming into the abyss because all of your real-life contacts have stopped answering the phone. Spare us your inane, uninformed drivel, and go back to lurking at the Herald.

The system you propose - totalitarian governments that use secret police and torture to figure out who is a terrorist - failed to prevent every single prior Islamic terrorist in the US coming here from such countries - Russia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia...

On that count, the countries with no effective government seem to be doing a better job. Maybe it's because totalitarian governments that use secret police and torture tend to create terrorists.

Actually, Russia's totalitarian government could have stopped a terrorist attack if our authorities would have taken their information more seriously. If you recall, the Russian secret police DID warn us about the Tsarnaevs.

So let's broaden the order.

up
Voting closed 0

What, exactly, do you want to "broaden the order" to? Cut off more countries? That won't save you from the people who come from countries not on your list. Cut off EVERY country? It won't save you from those who are already here, who were BORN here. Throw out all the Muslims? But white Christian males appear to be more of a threat if you look at facts and not fears. Suspend civil liberties so that your Stasi can haul in anyone and torture them until they "confess"? What exactly would it take to make you feel "safe"?

it never stops. All these people so scared for their safety, so scared for America, so concerned about immigration and our "security" are the most spineless, cowardly Americans among us. They voted for Trump out of fear, they go out and buy guns and dig out their little bunkers and call up Jim Bakker's 800 number and order up buckets of "prepper" food because they are terrified. Terrified, yellow, little ingrates.
These are the kinds of folks where you step up to them and ask them to say something to your face, they shrivel away. It's disgusting. I and people like me are not afraid of these things. They are beyond our control. See that word? CONTROL. As much as you want to you CANNOT control things. This applies to both sides of the aisle, we need more pragmatic leaders.
Can you imagine if these people studied space and our solar system in detail?
BAN METEORS!
BUILD AN ELECTRO-MAGNETIC WALL BETWEEN US AND THE SUN!
THE MOON IS MOOCHING OFF OF US!

Cripes you people have more to fear from your daily commute in a car than you do from terrorists. Sack up!

Would you prefer the US simply declare war on Islam and accept the loss of thousands of American forces, the tens (hundreds) of thousands of dead civilians, and the overall destruction of the American economy which would result from the an endless war? Islam is not a country. You can not defeat terrorism.

Would you just prefer the US to nuke the shit out of most of the Arab world and hope for the best?

Trump's move is positioning the US in that direction.

I think if I'm Al Qaeda I just keep attacking you until you give up and leave, or nuke the M.E., or I kill all of you.

Capuano's thoughts are nice, but the truth is in response to 9/11, Democrats and Republicans killed many thousands of Muslims, and jointly eviscerated the Constitution as we are now surveilled to hell, and basically did very little to change the posture of the U.S.

Democrats nominated and voted for John Kerry, Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton. All three voted for war in Iraq, because they wanted to be president. Hillary Clinton proposed invading Syria and war with Russia.

These days we are desperate not to be called racists. The idea that we welcome Muslim immigrants is a polite fiction. We will welcome them to the point where we can feel good about ourselves, until they find a way kill enough of us. If I'm Al Qaeda all I have to do is pull off another spectacular attack.

or I kill all of you

That's ridiculous - classic example of how these relatively small extremist groups can cause such a fear-based (but not reality-based) autoimmune reaction that gets us all killed.

We are vastly more at risk of an unelected troll pulling a coup or convincing Trump to nuke billions of innocent people than we are at risk from Al Qaida. They have killed relatively few Americans on US soil. It would be more effective to nuke all toddlers instead - they have killed a lot more Americans in recent years.

You might want to go back to school sometime - US constitutional history and statistics would be a good start. Media Literacy would help you get this sorted, too. They teach them at the community colleges.

do you recommend people just walk around feeling happy until the bombs go off? Your outlook was understandable in 1999. Don't you understand your approach was blown to smithereens?

You really have no undestanding of competition besides some kind of passive aggression. By the time you make your opponent look bad he's broken your neck.

up

And delusional.

Like I said - you are part of the autoimmune response to terrorism. They aren't destroying us - they just grab people like you by your intense xenophobia and lead YOU to destroy us.

They have you. They own you. They are using you.

Much easier that way, dear. You are in their thrall. You are doing their work.

Add immunology to that list ...

Your shell of good feeling has already been cracked like an egg once. You have managed to paper it over and forget what you supported back then, and take the moral high ground all over again, which is really nauseating.

If they could "kill ten million of us", then they would.

They can't, and they know that.

Destroy them without changing the ecosystem that gave rise to them and you get a whole new and very similar organization to exploit that niche. Like ISIL.

That's why they control you. They don't have the resources to do the destruction that you fear, and they haven't. You've been duped. You are their agent to destroy Democracy and you are very much on board with that.

Your irrational fears and failure to assess the magnitude of the situation have rendered you incapable of rational thought at this point, and part of their plan.

Maybe your little screen doesn't reach over there, but they regularly carry out bombings killing 70-150 people at a time.

How many did we kill, darling???

That's great for their recruiting, too.

If you want to play the numbers game, we are the arch terrorists.

Better yet, Consider the learned opinion of somebody who actually put his rear end on the line in that theater of engagement

Now go change your depends.

If Al Qaeda could kill 10 million Americans they would

And if your mother had wheels instead of legs, she'd be a bicycle.

Your shell of good feeling has already been cracked like an egg once.

You're a fine one to talk about a "shell of good feeling". You're trying to comfort yourself with the illusion that your efforts will result in safety, civil liberties be damned. You'll get neither freedom nor safety.

I opposed war under Clinton, Bush, Obama and Clinton II who you all voted for.

Like it or not (and I don't like it) but Trump is one way to disentangle ourselves from this tiger by the ear situation.

You guys are all saying stay in the middle east, keep killing over there, but open our borders and let down our defenses. It doesn't work. Like they will come over here and find out how tolerant a society the USA is. It doesn't work!

You tell me you're going to change your policies but when? well, later (ie never). I understand Al Qaeda when they argue that you won't change until you have to.

He's the leader of all those who have been recruited to the cause of destroying the constitution because, like you, they have no sense of proportion.

You and him and your frightened beyond reason ilk are destroying democracy and the constitutional underpinnings of this country. You are under their control. Own it.

I expect Trump is likely to declare war on somebody - pretty much anybody - in the next six months. It's the only way he could limp through four years in office.

they can't. That's why they make scary videos and make idle threats at America etc etc etc. 9/11 was done with box cutters dude. You know what they recently allowed back onto domestic flights? Pocket knives. So where has all this hemming and hawing and law-making and security measures led us? We are no better off now then we were then. We get air Marshalls now. We strip down and get x-rayed at the airport. The difference is that civil liberties have since eroded and we have a fascist leading our country now. All cuz people like you are afraid.
Its like the Iran deal with nuclear weapons. "THEY ARE 10 YEARS AWAY FROM HAVING NUKES!"
Well, America is zero years away. We have them. We can use them any time. Iran could be 10 SECONDS away from having nukes and we can wipe their existence from the map before they hook up the final wire.
Seriously WHAT ARE YOU WORRIED ABOUT?!?! Sharia law? How about Christian law? It is sweeping the nation.

"One minute speeches" are a special format in the House of Representatives where a speaker is recognized for only one minute. This happens normally at the beginning of the day.

Undoubtedly, Congressman Capuano has spoken in the course of normal debate.

Trump released a statement on the Holocaust today which specifically did not mention Jews as the group predominately targeted and slaughtered. (It did not mention Jews at all.) When asked, the White House confirmed the omission was purposeful and not an accidental editorial oversight.

The public should be aware just how much Trump is attempted to favor one religion over all others, even to the point of denying and/or side-stepping one of the defining atrocities of the last 100 years.

This should give anyone of any political party shivers.

But, yeah, the more subtle anti-semites don't go running around screaming about [fill in your favorite Jewish slur], they go with stuff like denying the Jews were the target of the Holocaust.
