Even in the Back Bay, most toddlers can't read, let alone process complex political issues

Questions most todllers can't process, in the Back Bay

J. Goddell spotted these questions laboriously scrawled inside a piece of equipment at the playground for little kids along the Esplanade by Mass. Ave. today, wonders if the author has ever actually met any toddlers.

Q: Why do people immigrate?

A: To escape places that were ruined by economic systems other than capitalism. Duh.

They emigrate to escape colonial exploitation by global capitalism. It is called moving to the metropol. But if you want simplistic answers to silly question carry on.

-- It is called moving to the metropol. --

No one has ever used that phrase before.

In your brain, people immigrate on the basis of things that have never been said or written or even hinted at or even understood.... some sort of hive behavior or mkultra directive it appears.

Interesting.

No one has ever used that phrase before.

I'm willing to believe that no one has in your experience, but that just means that you probably haven't read/thought much about colonialism.

By the way, "emigrate" and "immigrate" are two different words with different meanings.

hahaha wow. People are currently leaving places in the US that have been ruined by capitalism and moving to places like Boston. You couldn't be more off-base with your black/white worldview.

Boston is not capitalist? Can I have some of that stuff you've been smoking?

Witty remark my friend! Top notch!

Run by a sole proprietor. Ya you know capitalism.

"Austin" not "Boston" is America's fastest growing city. It is in Texas.

With the exception of New York City, each of the 15 cities that gained the greatest number of people between 2014 and 2015 were in the South or the West.

- USA Today article regarding US census Data

A more recent Forbes article on "America's Fastest Growing Cities" included several more eastern cities, all in Florida or North Carolina.

Boston's population growth is almost solely attributed to immigration from outside the U.S.

Well i personally moved here because my home state has been at the wrong end of global capitalism, but I'm used to our experience (Appalachia) being ignored by folks in the Northeast, so carry on.

No matter what state you live in in 2017, living in the middle of nowhere is usually a piss poor financial decision. See western mass.

See western mass.

Oh, do tell. Provide data.

In February 2017, the unemployment in the Pittsfield area was 5.4%. In Springfield, it was 5.1%. In the Boston area it was 3.7%. Check it out yourself. Pittsfield is akin to Kentucky with their unemployment rate.

Mind you, I don't guy into Vandelay's argument that people are somehow bad because they live in places with high unemployment, with my thought being that these places (like Springfield and Pittsfield) should be invested in, but you asked for data.

Compare them to the Bible Belt, the Rust Belt, etc.

But it is still statistically significant. Also, Pittsfield has Kentucky numbers.

The most messed up figures for me in the report are the California numbers, but that is agriculture mostly.

The good folks of WV, KY, SW'ern VA, SE'rn OH, etc. have ignored the causes of their own economic problems since the 1930s, insisting on doubling down on dangerous industries instead of investing in education, new industries, or social programs.

And the folks in the Northeast have been sending you tax subsidies this whole time.

I'd tell you to cry me a river, but you've filled them all with the tops of mountains y'all claim to love but keep electing senators who are perfectly happy to vote to destroy.

Start by trying to help yourselves before crying that others are ignoring your plight.

Because those mines were owed by Appalachians right? Funded by West Virginian banks? The energy companies were all local huh? I know the deomcratic party is all about victim blaming right now, but you should realize something about the history of America. All the wealth and stability you find in the nice, structurally-sound, and affluent areas was sucked out of somewhere else. In this case it just so happens to be the mountains.

Thanks for the advice though, we'll keep trying to pull myself up by the bootstraps as soon as we find them boots.

The thing that pisses me off most about your neoliberal comment is the fact that you patronizingly used y'all.

Imagine what will happen to the Boston economy if the gov't ever gest a handle on the outrageous prices charged for drugs by biotech companies. Trump is on that case.. at least at one time he said he was. Or the off the chart prices charged by Boston hospitals...

Pro tip: if you want to make your paint marker last longer, consider condensing your platitudes into a list, like this!

Ask your parent(s) or guardians why:

  1. People can't be illegal
  2. Black lives matter
  3. Colonialism and capitalism exploit and hurt peoples and cultures

Now you have more paint in your marker to write on other cool stuff!

I thought about it for a few seconds and replied "White power."

He asked me what that meant and I replied "look, kid, you're way too young to be pondering political and social mores. How's about just learning how to use the potty and we'll call that world peace." He then asked for a Kit Kat bar. I was just glad he didn't ask for a Pepsi.

But as an editorial note, they should have included caregivers. It's pretty offensive that they didn't do that.

Well you will have to reference the merry-go-round and the monkey bars--they are pretty unbiased sources. That being said, I find the bouncy horse provides some interesting perspectives too.
