The Globe's #metoo moment is here

UPDATE: Globe report is out, says a male reporter propositioned a female coworker to sleep with his wife and that a mid-level sales manager made inappropriate comments to coworkers.

Dan Kennedy reports Kirk Minihane and Gerry Callahan spent an hour this morning talking about the sexual-harassment allegations floating around a recently departed Globe reporter and that the Globe itself is now working on a story about it:

What I don’t understand is why any news organization would risk letting someone else expose its own internal problems. The Globe has done great reporting on sexual harassment in the post-Harvey Weinstein world, from the plight of restaurant workers to the husband of Massachusetts Senate president Stan Rosenberg, now on leave while officials conduct an investigation. The Globe needs to hold itself to the same standard.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the John Henry media empire, an editor at Stat (Henry's health-care-news site), tweeted this today:

Is #MeToo changing your workplace? Should it?

So sexual harassment is FUN and EXCITING?

Such sadly warped masculinity.

Poor Globies so beaten down by you sex-hating freaks -- writing shows no signs they think about it at all.

Harassment, groping, rape, etc is not sex. Being assaulted isn't "fun".

Ever try it with a willing partner?

Update: I am hearing the Globe was already working on a story about the situation before Kirk and Callahan went public. Good. Original item below.

The Globe website prominently features two articles covering local sexual harassment allegations, one covering WBUR and one covering Fenway Community Health Center. No self-coverage yet....

David Bernstein considers the way the Globe backed into the story and didn't name the reporter in question.

On "Beat the Press" which is airing as I type this, they said Kirk and Callahan named the reporter on their broadcast. What is the point of the Globe not doing the same if the name is out there?

...first-time listener, and I could feel my brain turning to mush. Now I know how those poor European censors feel when they're made to watch unmentionable crapola. Those two individuals are completely classless and indecent people on every level. Where did they grow up? I find it hard to believe that any school system within 100 miles of Boston could have produced them.

All this to say that in their 30 minutes of absolutely useless banter during that segment, they didn't bother to name any names.

David Bernstein's tweets strongly imply that the public has a right to know the name of this reporter, as there are doubts that the Globe was adhering to standards of journalistic integrity; i.e. the subjects covered by this reporter received bias coverage because of his misconduct.

Twitter says it is Jim O'Sullivan.

...that the recent Globe articles on sexual harassment at the State House (Rosenberg husband, female aides anonymously reporting abuse) were reported by Metro columnist Yvonne Abraham, and not the reporter who until recently regularly covered the State House? This is possibly what David Bernstein is referring to regarding bias. Kirk and Callahan said on WEEI* that the link to this reporter's Globe profile is not active. From what I can tell his last published article was Nov 13, regarding a bill on mandatory minimum sentences. He also has not posted on Twitter since mid-November.

If this is not the person, he and the Globe should say so.

So the Globe can't name any of the state reps who are bad guys. And now they can't even name their own journalist.

She's said on twitter she'll email the names to anyone who asks:

Since his article was posted, he has retweeted all of the criticisms he has received including Hilary Sargent's offer. Seems like he is at odds with his publisher.
