Jury deadlocks on murder charge for death of clerk inside Uphams Corner convenience store in 2010

A Suffolk Superior Court jury today deadlocked on the murder charge against Onyx White, charged with first-degree murder for the death of Geraldo Serrano, 71, during a robbery at the Hermanos Unidos store, 728 Dudley St., according to the Suffolk County District Attorney's office, which announced plans to re-try White before a new jury.

At the time of the Feb. 21, 2010 murder, White was 16 and a student at McKinley Preparatory High School on Peterborough Street in the Fenway. A second teen, Martin Freeles, then 17, pleaded guilty in 2013 to several charges, including manslaughter and armed robbery.

The jury did convict White of unlawful possession of a firearm, the DA's office reports.
