Must've needed some body work

Somebody filed a 311 report from West Roxbury this morning:

Deer sighting. A young buck with two or three point antlers cross Washington St. Heading north, and as I drove by saw him standing in the parking lot of G&G Auto Repair. This was about 9:45 am.

Maybe looking to cause some

Maybe looking to cause some body damage...the deer equivalent of scoping out a burial plot?

This seems like a waste of

This seems like a waste of 311's time. Are deer not allowed to exist?

Really?

Yes, deer have a right to exist. And drivers have a right not to have a deer run across Washington Street in West Roxbury, where they get into a crash, killing the deer and possibly the driver. So maybe the person should have called 911 instead.

Drivers have no such right

By on

They have a responsibility to proceed safely such that they can stop short of a deer, or not kill themselves hitting a deer.

There is no right to drive without deer in your environment. That's silly.

On a busy street in New England's largest city?

By on

I'm not sure I'm the one being silly here.

Unlike on Enneking Parkway, there are no signs on Washington Street alerting motorists to the possibility of deer.

If I thought you were being serious, I'd also be appalled that you don't care that deer/car collisions usually result in death, at a minimum for the deer.

He was being sarcastic.

And before you decry the poor attempt, remember that there are people in Boston who can not pull sarcasm off.

You're kind of agreeing with anon

311 would be next to useless in a case like this. Should BTD put up signs telling the deer to only cross at the crosswalks, and when they have the walk sign to boot? I'm sorry, but looking at this as a 311 issue is silly.

Now, looking at this as a 911 and public safety issue? Yes, very much so.

Urban Fauna

My nephew has hit three deer in a decade or so of driving.

Guess who the insurance company considers to be responsible for the accident?

It isn't the deer.

It isn't animal control.

It is the driver.

If he's going in

to get his points adjusted, he's probably out of luck. No one knows how to do that any more.
