I think every diaper in the area was sold to people contributing to this drive.

I went for a couple of boxes of tampons instead.

So good that people are putting this together!

This is one of many reasons why it is better to donate money than stuff.
(edit: particularly if you are thousands of miles away from the disaster area)

The need is to get things into the area. Things - not money! There is nothing to buy down there.

The need is to get things in the area from areas close by. Not from Boston. Anything that is donated in Boston will require money to be shipped and will take time to get there. Money can get to nearby areas with the click of a button, and the things that are so important can be in affected people's hands today -- not whenever this caravan gets there.

It makes people feel better to give things. They feel like they're personally giving that stuffed animal to that kid in the disaster shelter. But that stuffed animal will most likely be thrown out. If you want to help, set aside your need to feel good and give money.

Define "close by". Every place within hundreds of miles has not been getting deliveries for a week now. Stores do not hold a lot of inventory anymore. People in "close by" areas (this was a monster storm, remember???) have exhausted that inventory. Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, and everything east are already experiencing shortages.

Emergency Management is a profession for a reason.

'Folks, just send your money.' Gotta go with GW on this one.
