Roving UHub photographer John K. stopped to look at the protest signs that were placed along the Boylston Street side of the Central Burying Ground at the Boston Common after yesterday's Women's March on the Common.

Many of my conservative friends are posting similar pictures that say
"Well it appears the protesters don't believe in the environment either"
(to elude to everyone not cleaning up after themselves after the march)

Not that they believe in facts and reality
But you could show them post March photos of the march route and staging area on the common. The park service even sent out a blurb on how respectful they were to the common (ie they took their shit with them and didn't make a mess).

I was wondering how it looked because the common was pretty muddy as I was walking around yesterday. I bet the grass was torn to all hell. (yeah I know its winter but still..)
I thought about the ball fields and the Garden
I was a little worried about the Common ball fields and trees and the Garden grass. With that many people more than expected, it's hard to take care of everything. Ultimately, the cost to repair per Boston citizen in attendance is pretty low -- I'd bet far lower than the cost of security (BPD, staties, Boston DPW, etc).
Which is to say: any major public event is going to have costs, this one included. Those costs are pretty low when you view then in perspective of the number of person-hours of engagement.

And I wanna chime in on this because I should have added this to the post above. Because it made the marches look bad for destroying the grass, but I need to clarify that...
For many years, Gay Pride and many other large gatherings were held in this same space. Several years ago they re-did the grass, the city moved all of these events to Gov't Center Plaza instead. It makes sense why.. the grass just never had time to grow between events in the summer. It was always a mud pit.
And I think the main reason why the march was held on the common and not Gov't Center plaza was that "Winter Wonderland" thing is already at GC. But I also think with the amount of attendees that came to the march on Saturday... Gov't Center would have not been able to hold them.
For a reference point, Boston Calling typically attracts around 22k people, and rapidly growing. Which is why it probably one of the reasons why it's being moved to Harvard Stadium in Allston this year.

Ball fields
I was standing on the baseball field (closer to the center path) and there weren't many of us there, but the grass still looked horrible without our help. That field has been in pretty poor shape any time I've used it. The softball field along Boylston is better, and was pretty empty aside from a crowd along the fence.

The protest sincerely moved me. I now care about stuff.

I'm betting it moved certain statewide office holders who will think twice about the turnout before they capitulate with alternative facts.

There were similar displays
In a couple of locations on Boylston Street (initially, where the road was shut while the finish line was still a crime scene, later moved to an area in Copley Square). In that case, the Boston City Archives collected everything for future displays (for example, there was one at the BPL).
Alternative event
I seem to remember a Teaparty event on the common a few years ago that left trash everywhere and trash cans overflowing.
Or was that a different event?

I've seen more liberal people that I went to high school with veer hard right in recent years, and I have also seen the preacher's kids that spouted the Reagan Line running for office in their 40s and 50s on a very strongly liberal platform.

Glad to hear this
I was hoping someone would undertake to archive the signs. Though I'm grateful that so many signs have been beautifully recorded digitally (here on UHub and elsewhere) it's impoirtant to preserve as many originals as possible. In addition to the vast diversity of messages expressed, it was pointed out by a commentator that all these hand made signs made by thousands of different individuals elicit genuine responses from people, as opposed to the mass-produced signs conveying the marketing slogans of organized campaigns.

I took these images around 8. By 9 the posters were gone. Clean-up crews removed about half, but many people took them as as souvenirs (after cleanup started and it was obvious the crews weren't saving them for anything) Several groups took hundreds of posters to display elsewhere.

This march had funding, organization, and permits. It isn't just a pussy riot.
I was there, believe it or not...
and it was a good march all around. The only thing that I found somewhat troubling about it, however, was the fact that both exits from the public garden (where the speeches were made) weren't opened, because that created sort of a wide bottleneck, where many people couldn't moved for at least 3/4 of an hour or more, which, imho, is not a good thing for a march. The fact that it was organized, with permits issued and all was what made it as good, and safe as it was. I later realized, however, that my mistake was getting off at Park Street, rather than the Arlington St. station of the Green Line. I might've had an easier time getting to the march. There were some good speeches by Senator Elizabeth Warren, Boston's Mayor Marty Walsh, and Senator Ed. Markey. It was all worth it, especially since it was s beautiful, warm day.

The reason the Charles exits were shut
Was because they were set up specifically for people with disabilities to use.
I eventually climbed over the Soldiers and Sailors monument hill
over to Beacon Street at the corner of Spruce Street, and entered the march from there around 2:30 pm.
It would have been REALLY helpful
If the MC had any idea of the local landmarks. "At the Back" does NOT cut it. The Common has no "back". Finally, an elder voice came up and gave specific landmarks.
Not excusable. 25,000 people or 175,000 people, you have to be VERY clear about where you are directing people.

Prayers for the 35 million female babies killed since Roe v. Wade. Did one hold the cure for cancer? We'll never know. Sadly they weren't able to attend. Comical to see Sen. Elizabeth Warren with the finger pointing and tremor-like head shaking, lecturing those who contributed to the Trump landslide. Having just returned from D.C. and the very moving, celebratory inaugural festivities, I hope she is the Democrat nominee for President in 2020. Meeting people from other parts of the country at the hotel, the parties and ceremonies, they think she's out of her mind. I couldn't help but agree.
It will be interesting to see if Channel 2's far-left Emily Rooney complains about the souvenirs from the Anti-Trump protest. She was quick to complain on-air about the city allowing the sneakers and marathon memorabilia memorial to "litter" her neighborhood after the Islamic terrorist attack. At least the Tea Party cleaned up after themselves.

Safe practice and reproductive rights did. Abortion will not stop if it is repealed. Pray for a country that does not understand this.

One important difference is, however, that when Roe v. Wade enacted, abortion became legal, and therefore safer and done with trained technicians.

Half right, half-assed
There were more women than men, but not by much. My informal calculation (based on a quick count of 100 people in a group, judging by aesthetics of the 100) is 60:40 women-to-men. And yes, there were lots of folks who appear to be white relative to people of color at the Boston march.
But college educated? How do you know that? And post-menopausal? With due respect, this march was at least in part to help people like you learn that the reproductive organs of other women are none of your damned business.

You also were not there. My elderly aunt didn't finish high school, my mother never went to college. I deliver mail. 175,000 is an awful lot of people to come from just one walk of life, age group, race, or gender.

You might actually see scores of women of all generations, including multigenerational families taking a stand against the current administration. And since it seems to be important to you, I feel confident in saying some of those women may have been menstruating.

There was a family - two dads and three kids - on a terrace at the top of a building on the corner of Charles and Beacon. They were all waving rainbow flags from their multi-million dollar city home and cheering the marchers. (the kids made signs indicating their family status)
I'm betting at least one of the dads was past menopause.
