Shields up, Somerville: Taco Bell looking at Davis Square location

Ron Newman sounds the alarm: Taco Bell is sniffing around the space where iYo used to be for one of its next-gen joints featuring alcoholic beverages to go with the chalupas - like alcohol-infused self-service slushies.

Chicago has a Taco Bell Cantina place that seems to be doing well.

I'm not a drinker, but this sounds very tasty.

Could be a pox on a neighborhood.

...."que bueno" rather than "que bien," amigo.

I last ate at taco bell when very drunk and living in an area far from here that was completely devoid of anything remotely resembling Mexican cuisine.

There used to be one at BU a while ago... don't think it's there. There used to be one in Newtonville...pretty sure it's not still there. Why the hell do they think it could service with Anna's, Tenoch et al nearby? oh...right....self serve slushy things with alcohol.

...depending on your regional usage, how you phrase the full sentence and what precisely is "good" - a noun or a verb.

For example, in Mexico we use both while not 100% the same, at least almost interchangeably, particularly how it was originally phrased here.

I don't think anyone goes to Taco Bell when they want "real," or even fast-casual Mexican food. I live within walking distance of some of the best in the city, and still take the occasional drive out to Everett or Revere for some TB. Sometime you just need that cheesy gordita goodness.

ok ill make sure to address this the next time i speak w my family that came to this country on a literal boat, from a spanish speaking country. they'll be glad to know that they've been speaking incorrectly the whole time. something i'm sure they've never heard before as argentines.

I said I wasn't sure. And I was going by a different dialect so don't get your panties in a wad.

I have family that came to this country on a literal airplane, also from a Spanish-speaking country. They say "que bueno" so I'll be sure to tell them they are wrong as well.

Are those even legal in Massachusetts?

I've seen places do it where the beverage is metered such that you pay for 20oz and the tap cuts off after that amount. They still control what you are served.

The Littlest Bar (RIP) used to have a table with Blue Moon and Guinness (despite them having had one of the best Guinness pours in town) taps built in. You gave them a card and they charged by the ounce, but it wasn't like prepaying for gas or anything, you just paid for whatever you poured in the end.

Better put a stop to it, then.

OMG!

Seriously, though - those toxic ethanol slurpees are the bomb ... and staggeringly effective. I was just looking through the pictures that I took in NOLA seven years ago. Wandering through the French Quarter between the end of my workshop and my flight home. The names change, but the mixes seem to persevere.

Taco Bell is pretty much my only horrible junk food craving... which usually happens after a night on the town and bad decisions are easy to come by... and I live in Somerville so this would be convenient and close...

And I might be able to have a nasty booze slushy at the same time?

This is wonderful and awful all at once.

At last!

The solution for those days when it's too much to dress up and too far to go to Anna's!

No longer must I be bored by the pretentious sort of people that dominate from the middle of the block to the Chester St end - I can come and go, happily anonymous in the teeming, salt-of-the-earth crowds at the Bowers Ave end of the block!

I like the concept but Davis doesn't need it - we've already got Anna's, Tenoch, and Chipotle, plus the Painted Burro if you want sit-down Tex Mex type stuff with booze.

As I always say..

You don't go to McDonald's because you want a quality hamburger. You go to McDonald's because it's McDonald's. (It tastes the same at any location you go to world wide)

Same with Taco Bell. You don't go to Taco Bell because you want decent TexMex, you go to Taco Bell because its Taco Bell (and you can get 9023485 tacos for 10 bucks with at 30% beef product they use)

The folks who eat at Ana's/Tenoch/Chipolte will still go there because they want quality food. The folks who have 2 bucks and want a laxative, will head to Taco Bell still.

.. the McDonalds that used to be a few doors down closed a few months ago. I'm just not that convinced there's all that much demand in the neighborhood these days for them.

All for it. We need more affordable Mexican food and less Tapas places.

We need more affordable Mexican places. But what has that got to do with Taco Bell?

We have lots. Taqueria Jalisco will give you a burrito the size of a baby for around 10 bucks. Or Cactus Grill if you want to go assembly line style AND authentic.

Oh no, did iYo lose the Battle of the Five* Froyos? I wasn't a frequent customer, but I was annoyed to see franchises swoop in right after iYo opened up.

* Three, sir.

Pinkberry closed after a flood and never reopened. A Japanese restaurant eventually replaced it.

Orange Leaf closed a few days after iYO closed.
