Silver car sought for cyclist hit-and-run in the Back Bay

Boston Police have released surveillance photos of the car whose driver hit a bicyclist in the Back Bay and then just drove off, leaving his or her victim with life-threatening injuries.
Police say the driver of the silver car hit the bicyclist at Commonwealth Avenue and Clarendon Street around 3:30 a.m. The car should have damage on the roof near the windshield area on the driver's side, police say.

My downstairs neighbor has a silver Lexus and the shot of it from behind looks exactly like what I see in our driveway.

It has the right size of logo on the front. Right shape, too.
Could also be an older Fusion
which is similar to the newer (2012+) Focus. But I think you're right about the logo on the front being a Ford.

Maybe there were parts left behind at the scene that they could use to ID the make/model, beyond that blurry photo?

Most likely not, it's not
Most likely not, it's not like there's enough money in the budget to update them every few years. Besides, unless you're staring directly at the cars toll-style, it will be hard to see the letters. I can't give you the exact "you need the letters to be this much in height in pixels to be legible and that happens at this distance for these resolutions" chart, but if you stand with a 1280x960 camera on an overpass in clear daylight, plates will STILL be really hard to read.
