Transportation EcoForum Takes Aim at Long-term Sustainability Issues

As a leading consumer of energy, transportation has risen to the forefront of discussion when developing a sustainable future. Boston has several sustainability initiatives underway, including the MBTA’s Environmental Management System (EMS), which has been in place since 2004, and Boston’s Complete Streets Program, a collaborative effort to design sustainable transportation networks. However, social, technological, and economic issues hinder the implementation of practical, sustainable transport.
“In building for the future, we need to find the people/planet/profit cost point analysis,” explains Michael Cassetta, Chief Technical Officer of 100th Grease Monkey, designers of Vegtable Oil powered “Flowtration” Stations. “Only when these needs are satisfied will the public transport system be more egalitarian and more environmentally sustainable.”
On August 11th, Cassetta will join a diverse panel of transportation, social justice, and environmental experts to discuss the future of sustainable transportation, with an emphasis on immediate personal and systemic change.
Other panelists include Vineet Gupta, the Director of Policy and Planning at the Boston Transportation Department; Chris Dempsey, the Director of Transportation for Massachusetts; Mela Bush Miles, the Chair of the Fairmount Indigo Transit Coalition; and Nick Garzilli, the Founder and CEO of Hyper Chariot, which is working to develop a solar powered global autonomous hypersonic personal rapid transit network.
The Transportation EcoForum will take place August 11th at 10:00am in Faneuil Hall as part of the 2017 Boston GreenFest. For more information, visit bostongreenfest.org/ecoforums.
