Turkeys no longer lurkeys

Turkey in Brighton

Maybe it's because they know they're safe on this Easter weekend, but whatever the reason, reports are piling up here at Turkey Central of the birds strutting across the city, such as this fine specimen Colleen Glenney spotted in Brighton this morning.

Yesterday in Saugus, one decided to dart across the road directly in front of our car. We barely stopped in time. At least no one was tailgating us.

Kidlet, home for the weekend, saw these photos, expressed the wish/hope she'd see a turkey as we drove to Bruegger's for some pre-Easter bagels. On the way back, as we're rounding the bend at the Holy Name rotary, look, right there on the sidewalk in front of the police station - a turkey! We pulled over on Belgrade, parked, walked over to see if we could get a picture or two (or, who are we kidding, three dozen). Got there just in time to see it CROSS THE ROTARY, slowly, like it didn't have a care in the world and, amazingly, it didn't get hit. Then it spent some time on the island just exploring the shrubs and occasionally pecking at the ground.

I could post pics, but, well, they look pretty much like every other turkey photo I've posted over the last few years, just with that added West Roxbury flavor.

Just almost collided with one, as I rounded the corner onto Huntington in front of Jordan Hall! Sorry for not getting a photo, it was hurrying up Gainsborough St quite purposefully, maybe to catch the student recital happening tonight?

Didn't get a picture, but I saw three turkeys in the Gillette parking lot today when I bike-rode by there.

This morning there were two turkeys in our back alleyway right off Union Square, Allston. Took a photo but not worth posting as its head was ducking behind a fence post. We've never seen 'em here before.
