Boston City Council backs striking hotel workers

The Boston City Council voted unanimously today to support 1,500 striking members of Unite Local 26 in their action against local Marriott hotels, which include the Westin and the Ritz-Carlton. Every councilor rose to voice support for the workers at what they said was one of the world's most profitable hotel chains, with a corporate "core values" statement that includes treating workers well.

....the same Council supports unfettered immigration, the result of which drives down wages in the very same industry. Well done, politicians!

Management exploiting workers is the result of unfettered capitalism, not immigration.

They're protesting primarily because of a green initiative to reduce housecleaning and the waste/pollution associated with it.

  1. That doesn't refute my point.
  2. That isn't why they're striking. They're striking for a living wage and a safe work environment.

So you think changing linens should pay for a $3000/month Boston apartment?

Show me hotel workers living in $3,000 apartments, please. Amazing but true: Not all apartments in the entire Boston region cost $3,000 a month.

yes.

why shouldn't it, aside from you just wanting to be able to have some group of 'poors' to look down upon?

Under socialism, it's the other way around.

so vote Republican, right?

So vote Republican unless you want to bet all of our farms to prove that where Russia, China, North Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, Venezuela, Cuba, Yugoslavia, and all the rest of them failed, America can succeed.

Vote Republican? Vote for the party that robs the poor and middle class to give to the rich? Vote for the party that wanted to send a pedophile to the Senate? The party of voter suppression? The party that gave control of the Department of Education to a crazed Calvinist with a financial, political and spiritual motive to dismantle public education? The party that put prevented a Supreme Court justice nominee from getting a hearing for an entire year? THAT Republican Party?

You are a fool. Worse, you're enough of a fool to think that you can fool others. You're one of those kids who's just clever enough to think of nasty tricks to play on others, but not clever enough to realize that people see through you, and definitely lacking both the smarts and the moral fiber to know that you shouldn't do that shit. You are the very worst kind of fool.

The City Council guaranteeing to offer every benefit being demanded by the hotel workers to the City's own employees.

Hah! Do as we say, not as we do is a time-honored position of every government everywhere.

"Let's ban Airbnb."

Where the (expletive) would Boston's City Council like for people to sleep?

you better believe that's a paddlin'

I assume they'd say that you should stay at one of the many other hotel chains in the city where workers aren't striking? Seems like the obvious option to me, but I guess you felt like that was a real "gotcha" there.

A simple Airbnb search shows over 300+ Greater Boston rooms if you need one tomorrow.

There's vacancies.
