Cambridge gas-station attendant shot after confronting man over stolen water bottle

Cambridge Police report a clerk at Richie's Shell, 1001 Cambridge St., was shot around 4 a.m. by one of two men he says stole a bottle of water.

Police say the two men drive up and that the clerk, 50, confronted them over the stolen water bottle.

The suspect retrieved a bag from a vehicle, pulled out a firearm and shot at the clerk. The driver of the vehicle fled in one direction and the shooter fled on foot.

The clerk was conveyed to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries after the shot grazed his foot. He has since been released from the hospital.

After an initial investigation, officers recovered the firearm used in the shooting in a black plastic bag on Inman Street. The driver of the vehicle was also identified by officers, stopped and taken into the Cambridge Police Station for questioning.

The alleged shooter is described as black, with long hair, and wearing dark pants and a blue shirt. Police say they know who he is and are now looking for him.

The suspect in the shooting had long hair and was wearing dark pants and a blue shirt, according to police

Should we assume they were white, given that it's not mentioned? Light hair, dark hair? I'm terrible at describing people, but this description is kind of useless.

ETA: Likely doesn't matter, since: « the driver who fled is is being questioned by investigators »

Would shoot someone over $2 belong in prison for a long f'n time. Also this is why prisons should remain punitive, because it's full of scum like this.

Shot over a retail item that cost less than $3.

That's the enemy, huh, guy?

but it occurs to me that if the shooter was the shoplifter (not clear from the article) they escalated a shoplifting charge (which possibly could have been avoided by returning the water bottle!) to multiple firearms and assault related charges. Good job.

Store clerks in minimarts and gas stations are killed far more often than cops, but I doubt that this guy will get a parade and his colleagues a shoot 50 people without being questioned card for his trouble.

CVS had a confront thieves policy and got sued blue when some teenager gave chase and was murdered.

Just let it go and report it.

Adam's description was also a bit confusing (This is Cambridge St. in Cambridge), so here's a map showing which store this is.

OK, so we have shoplifting, illegal firearm, illegal ammunition, assault with a deadly weapon, and attempted murder PLUS "some of the toughest gun laws in the country"...

And it sounds like this scumbag and his buddy are known to police.

So assuming they pick him up soon (and its Cambridge) should we expect him back on the streets by Monday?

Asking for a friend who doesn't like to share streets with dangerous criminals or dodge bullets while buying water at a gas station.
