The house was built for Deacon John Larkin, a man rich in American History.

Definitely Charlestown
The store fronts are gone from 55 Main street now, but the detailing on the corner of the building is still there. The storefronts of the nearby buildings are still there - a dry cleaner and and what was Sorelle's and is now a tea shop.

Wonder what the plaque says?
In the Streetview there is, what I think is a historical plaque on the side of the current building. I wonder what the history is, other than Dickinsons and Longs.

Charlestown
Agreed with the above, 55 Main St., Charlestown, corner of Winthrop St.; building is still there but minus the storefronts. One of a set of photos made by the Boston Elevated Railway Co. before they began construction on the Charlestown Elevated, which opened in 1901. So, probably around 1899. The Boston Archives series often uses photos from the Elevated Railway and the Transit Department, which took pictures to document the pre-construction conditions along all of their new projects.
