Driver admits she hit pedestrian, dragged her under her car on I-93 from Chinatown to Dorchester

A Cape woman faces a long prison sentence after pleading guilty today to hitting and dragging another woman under her car on I-93, three miles from Kneeland Street in Chinatown to Columbia Road in Dorchester in 2016, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Xiao Ying Zhou, 47, of Sandwich, is scheduled for sentencing tomorrow, the DA's office reports.

Her victim, now, 51, survived but now walks only with a walker, needs help with basic activities such as dressing and bathing and can no longer grip objects with her right hand, according to the DA's office, which adds she also required extensive skin grafts to her face, torso and legs.

According to the DA's office:

Had the case proceeded to trial, Assistant District Attorney Robert Connelly of the DA’s Major Felony Bureau would have introduced evidence and testimony proving that Zhou was behind the wheel of a Toyota RAV4 in the early morning hours of Feb. 1, 2016, when she struck the victim and her husband as they crossed Kneeland Street in Chinatown. Connelly would have shown that Zhou did not stop and that the female victim was trapped beneath the vehicle as Zhou travelled south and made her way southbound on Route 93.

If an ISIS member clicked on the "driving" tag on this site and read about the horrors committed by Boston area drivers they would probably think, "wow, I can't compete with that."

Every time I get on my bicycle I remind myself this kind of thing could happen

I realize that accidents (or is it collisions?) happen, but what kind of person keeps going? How messed up on alcohol, drugs, idiocy or panic do you have to be to keep driving? How can you not know you are dragging someone? If you do know...what is wrong with you?!?

When I see something like this, I assume that the person has warrants out for their arrest or are facing deportation or are in the process of doing something so illegal that stopping will "ruin their life", so they opt to destroy someone else's.

What is going on with people who do this??

I've seen it. I was crossing at a walk in Salem when a car hit a bicyclist and the poor guy was wedged up under the radiator. The driver tried to keep driving! We ran over and banged on his windows to stop. He didn't even look at us. His front tires weren't even touching the ground with the poor kid and his bike underneath and he kept hitting the gas.

He was an older gentleman and after some strong guys came out from a restaurant and lifted his car up, did he even acknowledge what was happening. He got out of his car as cops and emt's came but he seemed confused, spoke no english so I'm thinking maybe he was afraid of the crowd?

I'll never forget the image and the cries for help.
