As the Globe turns ...

Thank goodness we have Dan Kennedy to keep us updated with what now seem to be twice-daily dispatches from the front lines of our paper of record. In addition to the latest #metoo case, he reports the Globe is planning on some downsizing, at first through buyouts, but eventually with layoffs if needed.

author of "The Return Of The Moguls", a somewhat less than critical tome on who exactly to get the scoop on the Globe. Wonder why he's so read in?

And one thing you can't count on Dan for: a response to questions about his lionization of the pimp Mindich. Then he seems to have lost that powerful voice.

I realize all you want to remember about Mindich was his porn business, but he also was responsible for some good journalism, both news (let's not forget it was the Phoenix that really broke the pedophile-priest story, not the Globe) and arts criticism.

You know I have enormous respect for you and you've not doubt seem my Tweets on this subject. That being said, I will never discount the good work of the Phoenix when asked, but you were not witness to what I was.

You never saw the victims first hand or heard them tell their stories of the abuse suffered at the hands of some of the "readers" of the back pages of the Phoenix. No pun intended, but I can't help but wonder if Mindich would be sharing a cell with Carl Ferrer right now.

As to my doggedness on this issue, I know that many treat me as a troll and a crank for my persistence in this angle of this story, but who is the object of my enmity? Those who also profited from and still continue to profit from the legacy of a rag that evolved into a liberal version of Screw Magazine

The same people that delve into every aspect of anyone's shady past for their own ratings and profit, but run when it comes to their being asked to face the facts of the past they hang on to and make so much money from giving opinions that serve no one but themselves.

As far as pedophile priests, A little hypocritical to cry for the victims of the Church while the Phoenix used the back pages as their collection plates for the enablers of sexual abuse that Peter Kadzis claimed was the police's problem.

And arts writers? Maybe some day I can publish a detailed list of the many of those wonderful arts writers that supplemented their incomes selling promotional records they got for free to used record stores around town. You'd be surprised at how many of them never declared that income.

One last thing. You think Harvey Weinstein should be remembered as just the producer of Oscar winners like Shakespeare In Love and The English Patient? I ask because no one seems to be bringing up his good work while they are rightfully crucifying him on the Friday before Memorial Day in the 24 hour a day news cycle.

How will I know that any accomplishment of a Boston sports team was devalued by the quality of the competition and shouldn't be celebrated?

It's really making them some serious cash.

As long as the remaining establishment media people in this city continue to play their role of 'the sycophants' in our HUB version of the "The King has no clothes" and they continue to let everyone know what an amazing job Mrs. Henry is doing running her husbands media empire they will continue to have jobs. Albeit not well paying or with job security but then what are serfs for? Don't show proper fealty to tax breaks for GE, AMAZON, Red Sox, etc. and you will be shown the door.

Brian McGory is the poster boy for doing the grunt work of the rich white people who run this town, filling the paper with a rainbow of politically correct people who will also 'see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil'. That is the role of the Globe, to tell everyone in Boston that everything is ok, from the schools, to the MBTA, to the politicians, to the State Police so that those of us with homes in the suburbs
https://boston.curbed.com/2013/8/5/10212396/john-henry-brookline-mansion

can pop in and out of the City and use the sporting and cultural institutions as we wish without actually having to live or associate with the hoi polloi, and can send our kids to good public schools.

Great analysis Trophy Wife Linda.
McGrory, Kevin Cullen, Mike Sheehan, etc. delight in being what they call "great guys."
Poor Hilary thoughts she could join in, but in the end, lack of solid work skills and her disdain for the staff caught up with her.
Now she's out of work, divorced and furious.
And its weird, too, because Brian --a hung up, working class Irish-American guy from Roslindale and Weymouth -- just adores WASPs.
You'd think he'd treat Hilary -- an uberWasp -- with a little more care.

"the Globe is on track to hit 100,000 digital subscriptions by the end of June, and that the paper may approach sustainability if that number can be doubled during the next few years"

So the Globe could die unless it doubles its digital subscriber list in a much shorter time frame than it's taken (10 years? 12?) to get to its present size? Yikes.

Speaking of the Globe, Shirley Leung is about to appear on that sanctuary known as the Eagan and Braude radio show to discuss NECCO wafers! They haven't touched upon the McGrory mess, too bad considering he's appeared many times on the show to tout the Globe's work.

How does that insufferable Braude still have a job? Almost as bad as Mike Barnicle still finding a paycheck here and there.

Show is completely unlistenable. An echo chamber of politically correct Establishment Boston in an audio circle jerk. McGrory was a smug arrogant regular.

I dont listen any more but I am guessing they are giving this story a good leaving alone. Just like the story about Braude and the other top earners at GBH (all men btw) making $350k-plus there.

What shady business deal is going on with Necco?

When the stuff about McClory came out.. I was trying to be sensitive to Hillary, but..

Honestly, the drama that happens over there at the Globe, are the writing news or should they just start writing for a soap?

Phillip Roth dies, nothing in the Globe. Whether you enjoyed his work or hated it and thought it misogynist, he was a major literary figure of the last 50 years, and there is not one article about it or commentary on his body of work. Especially topical in the culture at this time. I hate the way the Globe is dumbed down.

Thought Joan Vennocci had an excellent column weeks ago about how Chartbeat has influenced the focus of the Globe. Sad, as someone would say.

Seeks no financial damages, but demands her cooperation in its investigation, the Herald reports.

I'm sensitive to the whole #metoo thing- but Hillary Sargent vs. Brian McGrory/ Globe is a classic "can't they both lose?" situation

Hopefully it can hop to other papers too. The Boston Herald can't be clean on this issue can it?
