Crook.

Curley calling himself "Mayor of the Poor" has the same hollow ring as "The People's Billionaire" with the ethnic demagoguery and fascist leanings to back it up.

That unlike somebody else you're probably thinking of, he actually did help poor people even as he got his mansion built and the like - Boston City Hospital was dramatically expanded, lots of parks were built and the like. So criticize him for his many failings (including how he financed a lot of those public improvements), but recognize that he did do some good..

If Marty Walsh attempted 1/100th the corruption that Curley caused there would be a score of US Attorneys working to take him down and he would be garroted on these boards even more than he already is now.

Don't let the sepia tone of history glaze this guy over.

In his reply to your previous post, Adam was responding to your comparison of James Michael Curley to Donald Trump, not Marty Walsh.

Curley turned the Athens of America into a fetid backwater during his tenure. Economists have documented "the Curley Effect" which economically crippled Boston into the 1980s! He was a stone cold racist too. Don't know why Curley is celebrated when he was worse than Yawkey and basically Boston's Tweed.

... do we honor that convicted felon, who did enormous long-term economic damage to our city, with a statue?

Say what you will, and there is much to criticize, it is a bit much to blame Curley for the large scale 20th century migration of city dwellers to the suburbs.

Three weeks ago.

How long before Providence puts up a statue of Buddy Cianci?

The sculptors' lobby has far more sway than the public realizes.
