Man convicted of killing a Dorchester barber outside his shop; the two had grown up together

A Suffolk Superior Court jury today convicted Dominic Shiner, 36, of voluntary manslaughter for the stabbing death of Sean Dwyer outside Dwyer's barber shop on Adams Street in Dorchester on Dec. 12, 2014, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

Prosecutors had charged Shiner, who already had a long record for lesser offenses, with first-degree murder.

The jury also convicted Shiner of witness intimidation for trying to get a pal to do something about people who testified against him before the grand jury that was deciding whether to indict him.

He is scheduled for sentencing tomorrow morning.

The two men grew up together in South Boston and two days before Dwyer's death, Shiner visited his shop to ask for money, Assistant District Attorneys Julie Higgins and Colby Tilley told the jury.

While held without bail at the Nashua Street Jail, Shiner attempted to mail a friend the grand jury transcripts he had received as discovery. The witnesses’ names had been redacted, but Shiner wrote them in and told his friend “you know what to do.” Employees at the jail intercepted the package and notified Suffolk prosecutors, leading to his Nov. 8, 2016, indictment on witness intimidation charges.
