Transit Police report arresting a Somerville man they say was busy beating up an MBTA worker on the platform at Alewife this morning until other T workers managed to get him off her.
According to police, Charles Mills, 29, of Somerville, was sitting on a bench around 5:20 a.m. yelling profanities about the train being held when a T worker walked past him:
Suddenly and without provocation Mills got up from the bench and violently attacked a female MBTA employee, who was walking past Mills, throwing her to the platform. Mills then proceeded to assault the victim/employee while straddling her. The victim was able to break free and get up from the platform, Mills then began to throw punches at the victim. At this time several employees came to her aid.
Police report that when officers arrived, Mills was surrounded by the workers, keeping him from escaping. The officers took him to Transit Police headquarters for booking on a charge of assault and battery.
