Roslindale about to get even funnier
By adamg on Sun, 03/25/2018 - 5:43pm
CSz Boston and The Riot Theater, which had been doing improv and sketch theater in JP, are moving to Roslindale, where they're building a 49-seat theater at 5 Basile St. in Roslindale Square, next to the Sumner School and where YMAA used to be until it moved to South Street.
The two groups are trying to raise $15,000 to properly outfit what would be the Rozzie Square Theatre, which would be the neighborhood's first comedy venue.

YMAA
YMCA = Young Men's Christian Association
YMHA = Young Men's Hebrew Association
YMAA = Young Men's Atheist Association?
Yeah, used to puzzle me, too, back when it was in Forest Hills
Yang's Martial Arts Association.
That's fascinating.
Will be interested to see how this goes.
Roslindale is clearly moving (like many places) away from classic retail quickly.
Bob's Pita old space - outpatient services of a sort
Thrift store old space - Not for YOU Albanian Social Club and chiropractor.
Dandelions - now Yang's
Marla's - breakfast/lunch/jazz cafe or something
I wonder what will go into Petco's old space.
Bob's Pita
Don't forget they're still around - just on the other side of Adams Park (for that matter, the thrift shop is still around too, just down a block on Corinth).
Oh I know
But those are retail spaces more which have remained retail vs. converting to office, service or other use so the net number of retail spaces is the same in that case.
All day activation = Good!
Wasn't the space that is now the thrift store formerly excess Bank of America branch space? I could have sworn that was the case, which would make that a 2-from-1 retail swicheroo, offsetting the chiropractor taking over their previous space.
One of the consistent requests I've heard from businesses around the Square is for an increase in mid-day foot traffic; the chiro and the Vinfen office (former Bob's Pita space) fit that bill.
YMAA may, too, but I could also see that as a draw for after work and weekends.
The comedy club will add a great dinner-and-a-show element to the Square.
These guys are hilarious!
These guys are hilarious! Highly recommended for a fun and reasonably priced night out. Family friendly too. Will be a wonderful addition to the Square, but hate to see them leave JP. At least we’ll have two smoothie cafes coming soon to make us feel better.
