Roslindale Marine recruiter connected to case of missing Winthrop man due in court tomorrow

WBZ reports that Frank Lipka is due in West Roxbury Municipal Court tomorrow on a variety of charges - but none related to the disappearance of Joseph Brancato, who has not been seen in four months.

UPDATE, 8:30 a.m., Monday: The Suffolk County DA reports he will be arraigned on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon and unlawful possession of ammunition, stemming from "an encounter with a delivery person in September 2017 and a search warrant executed at his home sometime after that encounter. I can’t be the only one who finds this entire situation extraordinarily sketchy. Considering the disappearance, this news, and the following stories on Lipka, I have hard time understanding how this isn’t a major local or national story. I really hope this story isnt being squashed bc it would be a serious black eye on military recruitment.

“Gunnery Sergeant Frank Lipka remains in military custody for drunken driving, absence without authorization from work, and an altercation with two other Marines in his unit, Captain Gerard R. Farao said in an e-mail Friday.” - Globe

“Boston 25 News obtained a police report that shows Frank Lipka was arrested on Jan. 27 after allegedly crashing his red corvette on Jamaica Way. The report states Lipka tried to flee the scene with his passenger and get into an Uber. Bail was set for Lipka, but there is no word if this arrest led to naval investigators bringing him into custody in South Carolina - where he is now in the brig.”
