State joins city in slapping Allston bar with shutdown for serving underage drinkers

Wonder Bar on Harvard Avenue shuts on June 27 to serve out a six-day state license suspension for a Dec. 2, 2017 incident in which state liquor inspectors found a total of eight people between the ages of 18 and 20 enjoying a variety of mixed drinks.

The state Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission actually gave the bar three separate six-day suspensions for the incident, but voted to let the bar serve them all at the same time. The commission also voted for another 19 days of license suspensions, but voted to withhold those if the bar stays out of further trouble over the next two years.

The eight young'uns - five with fake Colombian IDs, one with a fake Florida license, one with a fake Puerto Rican license and one with no ID at all - had mostly ordered various vodka-based drinks, although one went for a tequila sunrise and another settled for just a Corona beer.

The state inspection came about two weeks after owner Noah Eisendrath apologized to the Boston Licensing Board for a city inspection that found six underage drinkers with mixed drinks on Oct. 22.

One day after the Dec. 2 state inspection, BPD detectives visited the bar and found two college freshmen with vodka drinks - with both telling the cops they got in by paying the doorman $10 or $15 each.

What are they supposed to hire a US Marshall to check IDs?? Too harsh on the bar.

to check ID's. It serves the proprietor(s) of the bar in question right for serving alcohol to underaged drinkers in violation of the law, to begin with.

Pretty much all Allston bars won't accept any out of state ID, forget out of country. They knew what they were doing.

If I were in charge, that would be considered unconstitutional.

It's a good thing you're not in charge.

Oh wow. I used to go to their goth night (I know the DJ). Wonder (heh), where they will move to.

Either way, yeah, the bar knew what it was doing and I honestly don't feel sorry.
