State Street stabbing victim remains in medically induced coma

An East Boston man had bail set at $250,000 on charges he stabbed two men and punched a third early this morning at State and Commercial streets, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

One of the stabbing victims was placed in a medical coma to help him recover and remained in that state this afternoon, the DA's office reports.

Even if Jay Leffel, 23, made bail for the two counts of armed assault with intent to murder and one count of assault and battery, he would remain behind bars at least pending hearings in East Boston Municipal Court on whether his arrests violated his probation for convictions for assault with a dangerous weapon in 2016 and receiving stolen property in 2015, the DA's offce reports.

According to the DA's office:

Assistant District Attorney Christina Juitt told the court that eyewitnesses and video evidence suggest that Leffel, who had numerous and distinctive tattoos, struck one victim and then stabbed the others during a physical altercation. Boston Police apprehended Leffel near Downtown Crossing a short time later.

Innocent, etc.
