Flooded Morrissey Boulevard

Ndorb managed to avoid being washed out to sea on Dorchester's Morrissey Boulevard, reports it's now closed, at least heading south, due to the usual flooding. It'll probably be closed for awhile, what with the storm and the impending high tides from the superdupermoon.

Look at a map of Morrissey Boulevard, and you'll notice it's a little causeway that goes over the Atlantic ocean. And yet every time it floods, the media (not you, Adam, you're awesome) goes "oh noes, it's flooding!" Why did people build there, exactly?

The base sea level had risen a foot since people moved business into that area.

Only going to get worse.

To give people a heads up that it is flooded, so maybe seek an alternate route?

Awhile means, "for a short time or period." Thus, it cannot follow a preposition. Substituting the definition for the word in your sentence, it would read, "It'll probably be closed for for a short period of time, ...." The two-word expression a while is a noun phrase meaning, "a period or interval of time." In your sentence, that would read, "It'll probably be closed for a period or interval of time, ...." Much better!

Is anyone looking at ways to fix this since it happens more frequently ( thinking like what was done in Rye NH)? my commute is really gonna suck each time it is closed :(

And thanks for posting this so I know Adam!

Why do we need this area anyway?

Hard infrastructure doesn't work for long - tear it all out and restore the marshlands.

Close it off when it gets to the peninsula/open water and restore the marshlands.

I-93 goes the same way.
