Would be hard to find a boot that would fit a coot

Coot and feet

Coots are interesting birds. While they're in the water, they look like small ducks. Then they stand on a rock and they look sort of like chickens. And then, if they come fully out of the water and start walking around, well, you can't help but notice their feet, as Enoch Pratt did today down at Leverett Pond in the Emerald Necklace.

He definitely has the Evil Eye.

I am now imagining a movie titled The Old Coot, about a colorful old fellow who most of the time seems amusing and harmless, but...

This bird would be seen in closeups during the opening credits, and at various other times when you are getting a little too comfortable with the cantankerous old guy. I'm not sure what he's really up to, but the bird reminds you that it can't be good.

PS - UHub has a lot of virtues, but one of the more surprising ones is that it provides a home for an amazing number of great bird photos. This week alone there has been this one, and the the Snowy Owls (twice). There have been a lot of others. A gallery of them would be spectacular.
