Boston's newest Popeyes, on VFW Parkway in West Roxbury, is getting nearer to opening, just a quick jog up the road from the Chick-fil-A on the Dedham side of the line.
Once opened - the owners have yet to appear before the Boston Licensing Board for a food-serving license and still have to take down the giant, fading Bagelville sign from the previous tenant - the Popeyes will add a new facet to West Roxbury's Fun Mile, which already has stores at which to procure ciggies and beer, party favors, sex toys and beds on which to play with the sex toys, as well as a laser-tag place and a kid's party spot.
The fried-chicken joint will sit between the McDonald's and the Burger King. In addition to Bagelville, the site was home to one of Boston's few Dunkin' Donuts to fail and, before that, an Arby's. Once it opens, Dedham and West Roxbury residents will no longer have to make the long trip to Roslindale for their Popeyes fix.
